Association between interleukin-1 beta polymorphism (+3953) and obesity
It now appears that obesity is associated with a low-grade inflammation of white adipose tissue resulting from chronic activation of the innate immune system as interleukin-1 beta (IL-1). Previous investigations have described a positive association between IL-1 beta +3953 (C>T) gene polymorphism (rs 1143634) and obesity, suggesting functional effects ...

A paracrine factor local gradient (PFLG)‐generating system enables microvessel penetration across 3D hepatocyte tissues. The resulting vascularized constructs recapitulate hepatic sinusoidal hepatocyte—endothelial contact architecture and enhance hepatic functions in vitro.

Human placental cytotrophoblasts produce the immunosuppressive cytokine interleukin 10. [PDF]
The mechanism by which the mammalian mother accepts the implanting fetus as an allograft remains unexplained, but is likely to be the result of a combination of factors.

This review summarizes the roles of key central nervous system cell types, the extracellular matrix, and the blood‐brain barrier in neuroinflammation, and their integration into diverse 3D culture systems. It examines major incorporation strategies, including direct co‐culture, hydrogel encapsulation, transwell migration assays, and bioprinting ...

Interleukin 1 Signaling Is Regulated by Leukemia Inhibitory Factor (LIF) and Is Aberrant in Lif−/− Mouse Uterus [PDF]
This study addresses the regulation of the interleukin 1 (IL1) system in the murine uterine luminal epithelium (LE) and stroma by leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF). Using RT-PCR we compared expression of Il1a, Il1b, Il1rn, Il1r1, and Il1r2 during the pre-

Interleukin (IL)-1 refers to a group of three polypeptide hormones with a wide range of cellular targets. Two types of IL-1 receptor have been identified and characterized by cDNA cloning. Both human type I and type II IL-1 receptors contain extracellular domains of approximately 310 residues and a single membrane-spanning region.

Design and Synthesis of Peptide‐Polyester Conjugates for Cell‐Mediated Scaffold Degradation
This work describes polycaprolactone (PCL)‐based biomaterials engineered to degrade in response to cell‐secreted proteases. A fast‐degrading peptide (Fast) sequence is integrated into a PCL conjugate backbone to produce a biomaterial that is selectively degraded by multiple cell types compared to its scrambled control (ScrFast).

The biomimetic nanoplatform IMNP (ETS1 pDNA/PBAE@ITP‐MM) undergoes targeted disassembly at inflammatory vascular sites to release the ETS1 plasmid (pETS1). This release initiates a cascade of effects that inhibit pathogenic pathways and support immune homeostasis. (Abbreviations: EndMT, endothelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition; EC, endothelial cell; TC, T
