Decidualization of human endometrial stromal cells is suppressed by endometrial IL-1 in an autocrine or paracrine manner, indicating that constant suppression of stromal decidualization by IL-1 requires a neutralizing mechanism for IL-1 action to accept embryo implantation.

Probing the role of interleukin-1 beta convertase in interleukin-1 beta secretion.
Agents and actions. Supplements, 1992Interleukin-1 beta must be processed from its precursor form of 31.5 kDa to its mature form of 17 kDa in order to elaborate its wide array of bioactivities. The recent identification of a monocyte-specific endoprotease, termed interleukin-1 beta-converting enzyme (ICE), capable of generating authentic, bioactive 17 kDa IL-1 beta suggests that this ...

Interleukin-1 beta targeted therapy for type 2 diabetes
Expert Opinion on Biological Therapy, 2009Since having been cloned in 1984, IL-1beta has been the subject of over 22,000 citations in Pubmed, among them over 800 reviews. This is because of its numerous effects. IL-1beta is a regulator of the body's inflammatory response and is produced after infection, injury, and antigenic challenge.

Nucleotide sequence of ovine macrophage interleukin-1 beta cDNA
DNA Sequence, 1991We have cloned and sequenced the cDNA for the coding region of ovine alveolar macrophage interleukin-1 beta. At the nucleotide level, the ovine cDNA shares 95, 74 and 71% homology with the bovine, human and murine cDNA equivalents or homologs. Comparison at the amino acid level revealed 95% homology with bovine IL-1 beta and approximately 57% with the ...

Detection of interleukin-1 beta in human periapical lesions
Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, 1992Interleukins are involved in modulating bone cell activity. Interleukin-1 (IL-1) has been shown to be potent stimuli of bone resorption in organ culture. This hormone-peptide is produced primarily by monocytes and macrophages. Diverse inflammatory cell types are clearly present in periapical lesions.

Interleukin-1 alpha and beta induce interleukin-1 beta gene expression in human dermal fibroblasts.
Biochemical and biophysical research communications, 1988The ability of the two forms of interleukin-1, IL-1 alpha and IL-1 beta, to induce IL-1 beta gene expression in human skin fibroblasts was studied in vitro, using Northern blot hybridization. Both recombinant IL-1 alpha and IL-1 beta caused a dramatic increase in IL-1 beta mRNA levels, IL-1 alpha being more efficient than IL-1 beta.

Six nonpregnant, nonlactating Jersey cows, averaging 4 to 6 years old, were used to evaluate the immunomodulatory effects of recombinant bovine interleukin 1 beta (rBoIL-1 beta). Cows were given 166 ng of rBoIL-1 beta/kg of body weight at 8-hour intervals for 96 hours. Persistent leukocytosis was observed within 3 hours of rBoIL-1 treatment, peaking 24

Interleukin-1 stimulates the beta-amyloid precursor protein promoter
Cellular and Molecular Neurobiology, 19901. Amyloid plaques found in the brains of Alzheimer's diseased patients are composed of the 42 amino acid beta-amyloid peptide (BAP) which is processed out of the larger amyloid precursor protein (APP). 2. To study the regulation of the APP gene expression, we have isolated the promoter region of this angle of this single-copy gene and produced a ...

Neuropeptide Y inhibits interleukin‐1 beta‐induced microglia motility
Journal of Neurochemistry, 2011J. Neurochem. (2012) 120, 93–105.AbstractIncreasing evidences suggest that neuropeptide Y (NPY) may act as a key modulator of the cross‐talk between the brain and the immune system in health and disease. In the present study, we dissected the possible inhibitory role of NPY upon inflammation‐associated microglial cell motility.

Mass spectrometric characterization of recombinant human interleukins 1 beta
Biotechnology and Applied Biochemistry, 1990The cDNA coding for amino acid residues 121–269 of human interleukin 1 beta was cloned and expressed at Sclavo Research Center by C. Baldari et al. (1987, EMBO J. 6, 229–234) using Saccharomyces cerevisiae as the host cell. The purified protein showed a very low specific activity when compared to that of a mature recombinant interleukin expressed from ...
