Interleukin-1 receptor antagonist: Discovery, structure and properties

Progress in Growth Factor Research, 1990
Interleukin-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1ra) is a recently-described member of the IL-1 family. This unique human protein has 30% amino acid sequence homology to IL-1 beta and binds to human types I and II IL-1 receptors without apparent cellular activation.

Interleukin-1 and interleukin-1 receptor antagonist.

Nutrition (Burbank, Los Angeles County, Calif.), 1996
Cytokines are produced in disease or during immunologic challenge. Some cytokines increase host resistance to disease whereas others trigger inflammatory processes. Interleukin 1 (IL-1) and tumor necrosis factor (TNF) are pro-inflammatory cytokines that affect nearly every cell either alone or in a synergistic fashion.

Induction of interleukin-1 and interleukin-1 receptor antagonist.

Seminars in oncology, 1997
Drugs that affect the production or action, or both, of the pleiotropic inflammatory cytokine interleukin-1 (IL-1) are predicted to have a significant impact on a variety of human diseases. The biochemical properties of IL-1 and the IL-1 receptor antagonist, the mechanism for their production, and the factors that regulate their release are discussed ...
