Intermetallic Nanocrystals: Syntheses and Catalytic Applications [PDF]

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, 2017, 29 (14), 1605997, 2017
At the forefront of nanochemistry, there exists a research endeavor centered around intermetallic nanocrystals, which are unique in terms of long-range atomic ordering, well-defined stoichiometry, and controlled crystal structure. In contrast to alloy nanocrystals with no atomic ordering, it has been challenging to synthesize intermetallic nanocrystals

Electronic tuneability of a structurally rigid surface intermetallic and Kondo lattice: CePt$_5$ / Pt(111) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We present an extensive study of structure, composition, electronic and magnetic properties of Ce--Pt surface intermetallic phases on Pt(111) as a function of their thickness. The sequence of structural phases appearing in low energy electron diffraction (LEED) may invariably be attributed to a single underlying intermetallic atomic lattice.

Quasi-one-dimensional magnons in an intermetallic marcasite [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
We present inelastic neutron scattering measurements and first principles calculations examining the intermetallic marcasite CrSb2. The observed spin wave dispersion implies that the magnetic interactions are strongly one-dimensional with antiferromagnetic chains parallel to the crystalline c-axis.

Phase-Field Simulation of γ′-Co3 (Al, W) Evolution Kinetics with Antiphase Boundaries in Co-Based Monocrystal Superalloys

open access: yesFrontiers in Materials, 2022
Antiphase boundaries (APBs) of L12 ordered γ′-Co3 (Al, W) precipitates have an essential effect on the high-temperature strength of Co-based monocrystal superalloys. In this work, the antiphase boundaries and their effects on the evolution kinetics of γ′

Breaking adsorption-energy scaling limitations of electrocatalytic nitrate reduction on intermetallic CuPd nanocubes by machine-learned insights

open access: yesNature Communications, 2022
The electrochemical nitrate reduction reaction (NO3RR) to ammonia is an essential step toward restoring the globally disrupted nitrogen cycle. In search of highly efficient electrocatalysts, tailoring catalytic sites with ligand and strain effects in ...

Effect of Alloying Elements on Intermetallic Formation during Friction Stir Welding of Dissimilar Metals: A Critical Review on Aluminum/Steel

open access: yesMetals, 2023
The main drawback of friction stir welding (FSW) dissimilar metals is the formation of intermetallic compounds (IMCs), which are brittle and affect the strength of the joint.

The influence of Iron and Aluminium Powder Pressing on the Course of Shrinkage and Properties of the Fe40Al Phase Obtained by Reaction Sintering [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Metallurgy and Materials, 2022
The effect of the compaction rate on the structure, microstructure and properties of Fe-Al sinters obtained during the SHS reaction is presented in this paper. It was found that increasing the uniaxial pressing pressure led to the increase of the contact

Dynamic mechanical behavior, microstructure evolution, and restoration mechanism of a β‐Ti alloy during hot compression deformation

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mechanical System Dynamics, 2022
Metastable β titanium alloys are promising materials for lightweight and energy‐efficient applications due to their high strength and low density. Thermal–mechanical processing (TMP) is one of the most effective ways to improve the mechanical properties ...
