Study of Ce intermetallic compounds: an LDA classification and hybridization effects [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2000
Spin-polarized calculations within the LDA approximation have been done with the goal of characterizing Ce intermetallic compounds. Symmetry and chemical environment effects on 4f hybridization and, thereafter, on magnetization effects have been studied.

Recent insights in corrosion science from atomic spectroelectrochemistry

open access: yesElectrochemical Science Advances, Volume 2, Issue 6, December 2022., 2022
Abstract A fundamental understanding of corrosion mechanisms is the key to developing suitable corrosion protection approaches, and for the prediction of service life of metallic structures. However, conventional corrosion testing methods such as mass loss and electrochemical testing do not guarantee estimation of "true" corrosion rate and often mask ...

Y3Ru2−x—A Representative of a Composite Modulated Family of Intermetallics

open access: yesCrystals, 2019
The compound Y3Ru2−x was synthesized from the elements and the structure was solved from single crystal synchrotron data. The high quality of the data allowed the determination of the incommensurate ordering of the compound, previously reported as ...

Intermetallic compounds of gold [PDF]

open access: yesGold Bulletin, 1996
The publication of a treatise (1) and two recent papers (2, 3) on the attributes and applications of intermetallic compounds (IMCs) generally make it appropriate to summarize some facts relating to the IMCs of gold.

Electronic tuneability of a structurally rigid surface intermetallic and Kondo lattice: CePt$_5$ / Pt(111) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We present an extensive study of structure, composition, electronic and magnetic properties of Ce--Pt surface intermetallic phases on Pt(111) as a function of their thickness. The sequence of structural phases appearing in low energy electron diffraction (LEED) may invariably be attributed to a single underlying intermetallic atomic lattice.

High‐Entropy Liquid Metal Process for Transparent Ultrathin p‐Type Gallium Oxide

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work introduces a doping strategy for harvesting ultrathin Ga oxide layers using a multi‐elemental Ga‐based liquid metal alloy. The incorporation of trivalent In metal into the self‐limiting oxide formed on the alloy's surface is enabled by the existence of atomically dispersed Pt, Au, and Pd.

Effect of Rapid Quenching on the Solidification Microstructure, Tensile Properties and Fracture of Secondary Hypereutectic Al-18%Si-2%Cu Alloy

open access: yesMetals, 2020
In this work, the effect of rapid quenching from the partially liquid and solid condition is studied on the as-cast microstructure, tensile properties and fracture features of a secondary hypereutectic Al-18%Si-2%Cu alloy.

Low‐Surface‐Energy Copper Promotes Atomic Diffusion and Ordering in PtFeCu Intermetallic Compounds for Oxygen Reduction Catalysis

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A copper‐induced atom ordering strategy is developed for the reconstruction of raw commercial Pt catalyst into ordered PtFeCu intermetallic compounds for hydrogen fuel cells. Abstract Carbon‐supported platinum intermetallic compound nanoparticles are seen as the next‐generation cathodic catalysts for hydrogen fuel cells due to their high activity and ...
