This study proposes a new methodology for producing metal matrix nanocomposites in the solid state. The process involves the plasma‐assisted thermochemical treatment of metallic alloy powders. As a proof‐of‐concept, TiN nanoparticles are synthesized directly on the surface of FeTi intermetallic powder particles, enabling the development of the ...

Strengthening high entropy alloys (HEAs) via second phases is a very effective approach. However, the design of intermetallic (IM) phases in HEAs is challenging, mainly because our understanding of IM phases in HEAs is still very limited.

The structure of the aluminium-abundant γ-brass-type Al8.6Mn4.4
An aluminium-abundant Al8Mn5/γ-brass-type intermetallic with formula Al8.6Mn4.4, which is isotypic with γ-Al8Cr5 and γ-Al8V5, was discovered by high-temperature sintering of an Al/Mn mixture with initial composition Al2Mn.

High‐temperature interactions between low‐sulfur Al‐killed Mn–B steel and MgO–C refractories (0 and 50 wt% recyclates) are studied via finger immersion tests (1600 °C). Surface‐active elements influence infiltration. MgO/CaS layer forms, along with spinel and calcium silicate.

Bimetallic (NiFe) and trimetallic (NiFeCr) nanoalloys (NAs) are synthesized using corresponding oxide mixtures using microwave hydrogen plasma within a few milliseconds. The process simultaneously 1) reduces metal oxides to metals; 2) downsizes the particles from micrometers to nanometers; and 3) blends the metals to form NAs.
