Interdiffusion in Zr-Mo/W Intermetallics

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2023
Intermetallic compounds or solid solutions can form between Zr and Mo/W, in which the multiphase of the diffusion may be influenced by each other. Interdiffusion kinetic data in such intermetallic systems are highly demanded for material design.

Short Term Oxidation of a Ti-46Al-8Nb Alloy at 700°C in Air [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Thermogravimetry was used to study the oxidation behaviour of a lamellar Ti46Al8Nb alloy during holding at 700°C in synthetic air. A parabolic plot of the oxidation kinetics shows three different regimes over the total duration (50 h) of the tests ...

The third-order elastic moduli and pressure derivatives for AlRE (RE=Y, Pr, Nd, Tb, Dy, Ce) intermetallics with B2-structure: A first-principles study

open access: yes, 2011
The third-order elastic moduli and pressure derivatives of the second-order elastic constants of novel B2-type AlRE (RE=Y, Pr, Nd, Tb, Dy, Ce) intermetallics are presented from first-principles calculations.

Dynamic Precipitation during High‐Pressure Torsion of a Magnesium–Manganese Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An ultrafine‐grained alloy is produced by high‐pressure torsion of solutionized Mg–1.35 wt% Mn. Precipitation of nanometer‐scale Mn particles during deformation provides pinning sites. This prevents the formation of a bimodal grain structure and results in a finer grain size than for pure Mg.

Effect of Mn addition on Fe-rich intermetallics morphology and dry sliding wear investigation of hypereutectic Al-17.5%Si alloys

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2016
The effect of Manganese addition on the iron-rich intermetallics and wear behavior of Al-17.5%Si hypereutectic alloys has been studied. Dry sliding wear tests have been conducted using a pin-on-disk machine under different normal loads of 18, 51, 74 and ...

Optimizing Post Friction Stir Welding Heat Treatment in Dissimilar Friction Stir Welded 6061/AlSi10MgMn Joints for Electrical Vehicle Battery Housing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Microstructural evolution and hardness optimization along the cross‐section of friction stir welded AA6061/AlSi10MgMn joints, for electric vehicle battery housings, were investigated. Postweld aging between 170°C and 220°C enhances hardness uniformity within the nugget zone.
