In-vitro evaluation of shear bond strength and bond-failure of isoamyl cyanoacrylate-resin adhesive ratios for bonding 3D-Printed denture bases and teeth

open access: yesJournal of Oral Biology and Craniofacial Research
Statement of problem: Shear bond strength between 3D-printed denture bases and teeth is inferior compared to conventional and milled dentures. Purpose: The success of 3D-printed complete dentures depends on reliable bonding between the denture base and ...

Fostering Innovation: Streamlining Magnetocaloric Materials Research by Digitalization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Magnetocaloric cooling (MCE) is an environmentally friendly refrigeration method with great potential. Optimizing MCE materials involves the preparation and screening of large quantities of samples, which in turn generates a large amount of data. A digitalization approach is presented that uses ontologies, knowledge graphs, and digital workflows to ...

Is an Apple an Orange? A Large Language Model Benchmark for Candidate Term Extraction and Subclass Decisions Against Upper Ontologies in Engineering and Materials Science

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Building machine‐readable vocabularies for materials science is slow, expert‐driven work. This study benchmarks 13 large language models on two of its first steps: finding candidate terms in engineering articles and deciding where they belong in a class hierarchy.

Bond behavior of epoxy-coated reinforcement in FRP-confined seawater sea-sand geopolymer concrete

open access: yesCase Studies in Construction Materials
The incorporation of seawater and sea sand geopolymer concrete (SWSSGC) in reinforced concrete structures may accelerate corrosion of the internal reinforcement due to the prolonged exposure to seawater and sea sand.

Symbolic Regression and Multi‐Objective Optimization of the Flory–Huggins Interaction Parameter for Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We develop a data‐driven method to derive the mathematical expressions of the Flory–Huggins interaction parameter χ for the swelling behavior of temperature–responsive hydrogels. Starting from initial assumptions of χ, our workflow combines Bayesian optimization, Flory–Rehner theory, and symbolic regression to generate candidate χ expressions.

Current Status and Challenges in Data Collection for Aerospace Coatings Deposited by Plasma Spraying

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An innovative approach has been integrated into the GRENAT project to optimize plasma spraying and coating performance. Raw materials are accelerated and melted in the plasma generated by torches, creating coatings. Monitoring sensors collect process data which are combined with ex situ characterization data.
