Distal humerus fractures in patients over 65: Complications [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
SummaryIntroductionFractures of the distal humerus in patients over the age of 65 remain a therapeutic challenge. Treatment options include conservative treatment, internal fixation or total elbow arthroplasty.

Investigation of the Uniformity of Gel Shrinkage by Imaging Tracer Particles Using X‐Ray Microtomography

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView., 2023
A novel method for tracking structural changes in gels using widely accessible microcomputed tomography is presented and validated for various hydro‐, alco‐, and aerogels. The core idea of the method is to track positions of micrometer‐sized tracer particles entrapped in the gel and relate them to the density of the gel network.

Rigid internal fixation of panfacial fractures without postoperative maxillomandibular fixation: A retrospective study of 25 cases

open access: yesAdvances in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, 2022
The aim of this study was to retrospectively investigate the validity of rigid internal fixation of panfacial fractures (PFFs) without postoperative maxillomandibular fixation (MMF) in patients who underwent open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF ...

New Internal Fixation Technique for Transconjunctival Fat Repositioning

open access: yesPlastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Global Open, 2017
Summary:. To treat tear trough deformities in young patients, transconjunctival orbital fat repositioning has been widely used. Although internal fixation of transposed fat enables more secure and stable fixation than the externalized percutaneous suture

A stepwise emergence of evolution in the RNA world

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
How did biological evolution emerge from chemical reactions? This perspective proposes a gradual scenario of self‐organization among RNA molecules, where catalytic feedback on random mixtures plays the central role. Short oligomers cross‐ligate, and self‐assembly enables heritable variations. An event of template‐externalization marks the transition to

Open reduction internal fixation versus external fixation with limited internal fixation for displaced comminuted closed pilon fractures: A randomised prospective study

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedics, Trauma and Rehabilitation, 2018
Background: Pilon fractures involve the dome of the distal tibial articular surface. The optimal treatment for high-energy pilon fractures remains controversial.
