Inverted Internal Limiting Membrane Flap versus Internal Limiting Membrane Peeling for Macular Hole Retinal Detachment in High Myopia [PDF]

open access: yesOphthalmology Retina, 2020
To compare surgical outcomes between the inverted internal limiting membrane (ILM) flap technique and ILM peeling for macular hole retinal detachment (MHRD) in eyes with high myopia.Multicenter cohort study. We retrospectively reviewed medical records of consecutive patients treated between June 2008 and September 2018 at 7 hospitals and included 100 ...

Superior Wide-Base Internal Limiting Membrane Flap Transposition for Macular Holes: Flap Status and Outcomes

Ophthalmology Retina, 2021
Internal limiting membrane (ILM) flap techniques are used for the management of macular holes (MHs). Status of the flap after surgery often is uncertain. The current study evaluated the status of the ILM flap after MH surgery with superior wide-base ILM flap transposition (SWIFT).Retrospective consecutive case series.Eyes undergoing SWIFT for MH.Data ...

Internal Limiting Membrane Flap

2020
In this chapter, internal limiting membrane (ILM) flap surgery will be discussed. As mentioned in the first chapter, ‘ILM flap’ indicates a surgical technique to cover a retinal break using the ILM as a sheet, because ‘flap’ refers to a piece of thin material fixed along one edge for covering or closing something literally.

TEMPORAL INVERTED INTERNAL LIMITING MEMBRANE FLAP TECHNIQUE VERSUS CLASSIC INVERTED INTERNAL LIMITING MEMBRANE FLAP TECHNIQUE

Retina, 2015
To determine if reducing the area of internal limiting membrane (ILM) peeling in the inverted ILM flap technique results in satisfactory outcomes for the repair of large Stage IV idiopathic macular holes.Prospective comparative interventional study of 87 consecutive eyes. Participants were randomized into two treatment groups.

MECHANISM OF “FLAP CLOSURE” AFTER THE INVERTED INTERNAL LIMITING MEMBRANE FLAP TECHNIQUE

Retina, 2018
Purpose: Recent studies described that in approximately 14% to 16% of cases of macular holes treated with the inverted internal limiting membrane flap technique, the hole was closed only by a thin layer of inverted internal limiting membrane—“flap closure.” The aim of this article was to describe the functional and anatomical ...

Inverted Internal Limiting Membrane Flap vs Complete Internal Limiting Membrane Peeling for Large Macular Holes in Nonposturing Surgery

Journal of VitreoRetinal Diseases, 2021
Purpose: This study compared anatomical and functional outcomes of the inverted internal limiting membrane flap (ILMF) technique with complete ILM peeling (ILMP) in nonposturing surgery for large, full-thickness macular holes (MHs). Methods: This was a retrospective, comparative, single-surgeon study.

Tailored internal limiting membrane flap technique for primary macular hole

Graefe's Archive for Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology, 2020
To investigate the outcomes of primary full-thickness macular hole (MH) after surgical intervention with tailored internal limiting membrane (ILM) flap technique.Patients were reviewed for their clinical characteristics and surgical outcomes. The technique included incomplete circular peeling of the perifoveal ILM which was then trimmed according to ...

Conventional internal limiting membrane peeling versus temporal inverted internal limiting membrane flap for large macular holes

European Journal of Ophthalmology, 2019
Purpose: To compare the functional, anatomical, and morphological results of conventional internal limiting membrane peeling versus temporal inverted internal limiting membrane flap technique for the treatment of macular holes larger than 400 μm. Design:

Mechanism of ‘Flap Closure’ after the inverted internal limiting membrane flap technique

Acta Ophthalmologica, 2016
Purpose4 macular hole closure types are known: U‐type, V‐ type, irregular and flat open. After the inverted ILM flap technique some macular holes are covered only with a thin layer of the inverted ILM flap shortly after surgery (flap closure). The aim of this paper is to describe functional and anatomical results in eyes closed with ‘flap closure ...

Inverted Internal Limiting Membrane Flap Technique for Large Macular Holes

Ophthalmology, 2010
Large macular holes usually have an increased risk of surgical failure. Up to 44% of large macular holes remain open after 1 surgery. Another 19% to 39% of macular holes are flat-open after surgery. Flat-open macular holes are associated with limited visual acuity.
