The occurrence of internal tides in the ocean

Archiv für Meteorologie, Geophysik und Bioklimatologie Serie A, 1954
A brief introductory discussion is given of the importance of internal waves for theoretical and applied oceanography. The temperature series obtained at four oceanographic stations in the North Atlantic are subjected to harmonic analysis and to the expectancy test in order to determine the possible presence of periodic variations coinciding with the ...

AESOP Internal Tides and Mixing

2012
Abstract : This project, with Eric Kunze at the University of Victoria (now at APL-UW), was undertaken as part of a Departmental Research Initiative (DRI) of the Office of Naval Research (ONR) entitled AESOP (Assessing the Effectiveness of Submesoscale Ocean Parameterizations).

Internal tides in the Adriatic

2005

Internal tides in Whittard Canyon [PDF]

open access: possible, 2017
Submarine canyons are common bathymetric features incising the shelf edge and are known to trap and focus internal waves leading to high levels of turbulent mixing. Whittard Canyon, located at the Celtic Sea shelf edge, is a dendritic canyon where little is known about the internal tide, yet where it is postulated to have a huge impact on biology ...

Internal tides in Dixon entrance

2009
Semidiurnal (M2) internal tides are studied in and near Dixon Entrance. Two complementary approaches are presented: a data analysis and a numerical study. The data consist of current records as well as hydrographic profiles. The derived baroclinic velocities represent a considerable portion of the total signal.
