The Layers Principle: Internet Architecture and the Law [PDF]
This essay addresses the fundamental questions of Internet governance: whether and how the architecture of the Internet should affect the shape and content of legal regulation of the global network of networks. Our answer to these questions is based on the concept of layers, the fundamental architectural feature of the Internet.

An Antibody Layer for Internet security
Globecom '00 - IEEE. Global Telecommunications Conference. Conference Record (Cat. No.00CH37137), 2002With the rising innovative antigens (such as intruders and viruses) through the Internet, reliable security mechanisms are required to perceptively detect and put them down. However, defense techniques of the current host system over the Internet may not properly analyze Internet antigens, because trends of attacks are unexpectedly shifted.

Security at the Internet layer
Computer, 1998The Internet Engineering Task Force is standardizing security protocols (IPsec protocols) that are compatible with IPv6 and can be retrofitted into IPv4. The protocols are transparent to both applications and users and can be implemented without modifying application programs.

Perception layer security in Internet of Things
Future Generation Computer Systems, 2019Abstract Internet of Things (IoT) is one of the rising innovations of the current era that has largely attracted both the industry and the academia. Life without the IoT is entirely indispensable. To dispel the doubts, if any, about the widespread adoption, the IoT certainly necessitates both technically and logically correct solutions to ensure the ...

Application Layer and Internet Applications
2013We have so far seen how data is transported from one computer to another over the global Internet, yet an interface is still missing where this basic technology can be used for special services and applications. Tasks that have now become an integral part of life, such as sending electronic mail or using interactive information resources on the World ...

The Internet as a complex layered system
2016Mainstream discussions of Internet economics often rely on assumptions that were already seriously in doubt by the middle of the twentieth century. As it turns out, the rise of new economic thinking, along with new technology platforms culminating in the Internet, directly challenge many of those chief assumptions.

The Internet, IP, and the optical layer
Fifth Asia-Pacific Conference on ... and Fourth Optoelectronics and Communications Conference on Communications,, 1999IP-based services differ fundamentally in many dimensions from traditional voice-bases services. Since today's transport networks were optimized for these traditional services it should be expected that far-reaching changes will be needed if IP becomes dominant.

A layered DCT coder for Internet video
Proceedings of 3rd IEEE International Conference on Image Processing, 2002Several compression schemes for Internet video utilize block-based conditional replenishment (CR) where block updates are coded independently of the past. In the current Internet video tools, blocks are compressed with a single-layer representation. We propose a new approach that compresses image blocks using a layered representation.
