Mutual adaptive timing in interpersonal action coordination.
Psychomusicology: Music, Mind, and Brain, 2013Coperformers in musical ensembles continuously adapt the timing of their actions to maintain interpersonal coordination. The current study used a dyadic finger-tapping task to investigate whether such mutual adaptive timing is predominated by assimilation (i.e., copying relative timing, akin to mimicry) or compensation (local error correction).

Understanding interpersonal action coordination: an fMRI study
Experimental Brain Research, 2011Coordination of actions according to the request of another person is frequently observed in daily life. The purpose of this study is to elucidate the neural mechanisms related to the processing of this type of interpersonal action coordination by using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI).

Articulatory constraints on interpersonal postural coordination.
Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Perception and Performance, 2007Cooperative conversation has been shown to foster interpersonal postural coordination. The authors investigated whether such coordination is mediated by the influence of articulation on postural sway. In Experiment 1, talkers produced words in synchrony or in alternation, as the authors varied speaking rate and word similarity.

Individual contributions to (re-)stabilizing interpersonal movement coordination
Neuroscience Letters, 2013Interpersonal movement coordination is characterized by stable coordination patterns. We examined the extent to which the two individuals within a dyad contributed to the stabilization of a shared coordination pattern. Within each dyad, the two participants coordinated rhythmic movements of their right lower arms in either in-phase or antiphase.

Synergies in Intra- and Interpersonal Interlimb Rhythmic Coordination
Motor Control, 2007The authors conducted two experiments that served as a test bed for applying the recently developed uncontrolled manifold (UCM) approach to rhythmic motor coordination, which has been extensively investigated from a coordination dynamics perspective. The results of two experiments, one investigating withinperson and one investigating between-persons ...

Moving attractive virtual agent improves interpersonal coordination stability
Human Movement Science, 2015Interpersonal motor coordination is influenced not only by biomechanical factors such as coordination pattern, oscillating frequency, and individual differences, but also by psychosocial factor such as likability and social competences. Based on the social stereotype of "what is beautiful is good", the present study aimed at investigating whether ...

Coordination success and interpersonal perceptions: Matching versus mismatching.
Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, 2008Coordination is an essential part of social functioning. The authors distinguish 2 types of coordination: matching and mismatching. In matching, coordination is successful if parties choose the same action. In mismatching, coordination is successful if people choose different actions.
