Particle precipitation during ICME-driven and CIR-driven geomagnetic storms [PDF]
Interplanetary coronal mass ejections (ICME) and corotating interaction regions (CIR) alter the parameters of the solar wind and interplanetary magnetic field (IMF) that affect conditions in the Earth's magnetosphere and particle precipitation in the ...

Particle Acceleration at Interplanetary Shocks [PDF]
The acceleration of interstellar pick-up ions as well as solar wind species has been observed at a multitude of interplanetary (IP) shocks by different spacecraft. This paper expands upon previous work modeling the phase space distributions of accelerated ions associated with the shock event encountered on day 292 of 1991 by the Ulysses mission at 4.5 ...

Acceleration of Suprathermal protons near an Interplanetary Shock
Context. Interplanetary collisionless shocks are known to be sources of energetic charged particles up to hundreds of MeV. However, the underlying acceleration mechanisms are still under debate.Aims. We determine the properties of suprathermal protons accelerated by the interplanetary shock on 2021 November 3 with the unprecedented ...

The event of 21 June 1980 and the origin of solar cosmic rays [PDF]
We present well-observed interplanetary disturbances in the near Earth environment and discuss their behavior. From these observations a hypothetical two source origin of Solar Cosmic Rays is discussed.

ABSTRACT As a crucial puzzle piece of deep space exploration, exploring small bodies can provide significant scientific insights and valuable mineral resources. Unlike missions to the Moon and Mars, small‐body missions pose distinct technical challenges, including communication delays, weak gravity, and uncertain environments. This paper reviews a full

On the role of interplanetary shocks in accelerating MeV electrons
Context. One of the sources of solar energetic particle (SEP) events is shocks that are driven by fast coronal mass ejections (CMEs). They can accelerate SEPs up to relativistic energies and are attributed to the largest SEP events. New studies suggest that CME-driven shocks can potentially accelerate electrons to MeV energies in the vicinity of the ...

Turbulence development behind the bow shock during disturbed and undisturbed solar wind
Magnetosheath is a transition layer between the solar wind and the magnetosphere and may contribute to the geoeffectiveness of various large-scale interplanetary phenomena.

Ion dynamics in quasi-perpendicular collisionless interplanetary shocks: A case study
Interplanetary shocks are believed to play an important role in the acceleration of charged particles in the heliosphere. While the acceleration to high energies proceeds via the diffusive mechanism at the scales exceeding by far the shock width, the ...

Abstract An unusual chondritic xenolith was found in two sequentially prepared thin sections of a sample from the Krymka (LL3.2) chondrite. The xenolith has a rounded, slightly deformed shape of about 5 mm in apparent diameter and is partially surrounded by a double rim made of an inner fine‐grained silicate‐rich rim and an outer sulfide‐rich rim.

Interplanetary circumstances of quasi‐perpendicular interplanetary shocks in 1996–2005 [PDF]
The angle (θBn) between the normal to an interplanetary shock front and the upstream magnetic field direction, though often thought of as a property “of the shock,” is also determined by the configuration of the magnetic field immediately upstream of the shock. We investigate the interplanetary circumstances of 105 near‐Earth quasi‐perpendicular shocks
