Computations on the interaction of an interplanetary shock with the Earth's magnetosphere
We present the results of a one-dimensional computer simulation of the interaction between interplanetary shocks and the Earth's magnetosphere. The position of the bowshock as a function of solar wind velocity and interplanetary field direction is studied.

The Effects of ICME Composition on the Sputtered Component of the Lunar Exosphere
Abstract Charged‐particle sputtering is a fundamental process that contributes to the generation of the Moon’s neutral exosphere. Neutral sputtering rates are dependent on the speed, flux, and composition of the incident charged‐particle populations, all of which are variable at the Moon’s orbit.

Abstract We present a multi‐instrument analysis of the ionospheric response to the intense geomagnetic storm of 12 November 2025 over the American sector, with emphasis on the longitudinally asymmetric deformation, latitudinal expansion, and zonal drift reversal of equatorial plasma bubbles (EPBs).

We apply an automated routine to detect and catalog interplanetary shocks observed by the Interstellar Mapping and Acceleration Probe (IMAP). Using this catalog, we derive the upstream diffusion coefficient corresponding to 1 MeV protons along each shock’

The θBn problem: Determination of local magnetic parameters of interplanetary shocks from in situ IMF data [PDF]
The angle θBn is the angle between the upstream magnetic field and the shock normal direction and is important for many phenomena in interplanetary physics.

Abstract As crewed space missions set course for the Moon and beyond, astronauts will experience prolonged exposure to Galactic Cosmic Rays (GCR) and potentially intense Solar Proton Events (SPEs), both of which pose significant short‐ and long‐term health risks.

Finding Novel Precursors for Solar Wind Stream Interaction Regions With Interpretable Deep Learning
Abstract Solar wind stream interaction regions (SIRs) drive recurrent geomagnetic storms, yet most existing catalogs rely on expert inspection and simple thresholds that are subjective and can miss events with complex morphologies. We present SIREN (SIR Encoder Network), a lightweight Transformer‐based model for per‐timestep SIR detection from in situ ...

We investigate the role of interplanetary (IP) shocks in solar wind turbulence using observations of Solar Orbiter, Parker Solar Probe, and Wind. Employing statistical analysis of quasi-perpendicular fast forward (FF) and fast reverse (FR) shocks, we ...

Low Density Drivers of Strong Interplanetary Shocks [PDF]
AbstractThe theory that most, if not all, interplanetary shocks are caused by coronal mass ejections (CMEs) faces serious problems in accounting for the strongest shocks. The difficulties include (i) a remarkable absence of very strong shocks during solar maximum 1980 when CMEs were prolific, (ii) unrealistic initial speeds near the Sun for impulsive ...

Abstract The Earth's magnetopause is a key boundary governing solar wind–magnetosphere coupling. The Solar wind Magnetosphere Ionosphere Link Explorer (SMILE) mission will provide global soft X‐ray imaging of the magnetosphere through solar wind charge exchange (SWCX) emission, offering a new opportunity for remote sensing of magnetopause dynamics ...
