An interpretable semi-supervised classifier using rough sets for amended self-labeling

open access: yes, 2020
Semi-supervised classifiers combine labeled and unlabeled data during the learning phase in order to increase classifier's generalization capability. However, most successful semi-supervised classifiers involve complex ensemble structures and iterative ...

Towards interpretable face recognition [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Deep CNNs have been pushing the frontier of visual recognition over past years. Besides recognition accuracy, strong demands in understanding deep CNNs in the research community motivate developments of tools to dissect pre-trained models to visualize ...

Effect of DFPP on Ferroptosis in Peripheral Blood CD14+ Monocytes of Hyperlipidemic Patients Involving the ACSL4/LPCAT3/ALOX5 Pathway

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Hyperlipidemia is a major risk factor for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). Although statins are the cornerstone of lipid‐lowering therapy, their use may be limited in some patients by adverse effects. This study evaluated the possible impact of non‐drug treatment using double‐filtration plasmapheresis (DFPP) on CD14+

Explainable AI for Interpreting Spatiotemporal Groundwater Predictions

open access: yesWater Resources Research
As machine learning models become more widely relied on for groundwater predictions, the ability to interpret and explain these predictions is increasingly important.

Simple and interpretable discrimination

open access: yes, 2009
A number of approaches have been proposed for constructing alternatives to principal components that are more easily interpretable, while still explaining considerable part of the data variability.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Interpretable everywhere

open access: yesIsogloss
The goal of this paper is to account for the variable agreement properties of the 1PL pronoun a gente in Brazilian Portuguese. We argue that previous approaches make wrong predictions about how different types of agreement with a gente work in different

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Generating Interpretable Networks using Hypernetworks

open access: yes, 2023
An essential goal in mechanistic interpretability to decode a network, i.e., to convert a neural network's raw weights to an interpretable algorithm. Given the difficulty of the decoding problem, progress has been made to understand the easier encoding ...

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...
