Publication Review - Social and Environmental Policies in EC Procurement Law - new Directives and new Directions Edited by Sue Arrowsmith and Peter Kunzlik [PDF]

open access: yes
A critical review of a book by Sue Arrwsmith and Peter Kunzlik which examines two significant aspects of EU 'horizontal' policies which embed social and environmental considerations into the public procurement process. A range of academic debates examine

Disordered but rhythmic—the role of intrinsic protein disorder in eukaryotic circadian timing

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Unstructured domains known as intrinsically disordered regions (IDRs) are present in nearly every part of the eukaryotic core circadian oscillator. IDRs enable many diverse inter‐ and intramolecular interactions that support clock function. IDR conformations are highly tunable by post‐translational modifications and environmental conditions, which ...

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Time after time – circadian clocks through the lens of oscillator theory

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Oscillator theory bridges physics and circadian biology. Damped oscillators require external drivers, while limit cycles emerge from delayed feedback and nonlinearities. Coupling enables tissue‐level coherence, and entrainment aligns internal clocks with environmental cues.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Discrimination Law and the Ebb and Flow of Indirect Effect in Britain [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Strained judicial interpretation of British discrimination law is not new; some of the leading House of Lords cases on the European Union law doctrine of Indirect Effect have concerned discrimination law.

INTEGRATING AND INTERPRETING THE HABITATSAND BIRDS DIRECTIVES

open access: yesTilburg Law Review, 2005
4 SUMMARY 1. Much could be learned from integrative practices in front running member states with some experience with overall planning integration as described above in section 2.3. In these member states spatial planning is seen as an useful framework for balancing all environmental interests and even one planning permission comes in the picture ...

The Functional Interpretation of Direct Computations

open access: yesElectronic Notes in Theoretical Computer Science, 2011
AbstractThe concept of direct computation used by Statman (1977) was instrumental in the development of a notion of normal form for proofs of equality. In order to find a functional (Curry–Howard style) interpretation of direct computations we take a closer look at proof procedures for first-order sentences with equality drawing the attention to the ...

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...
