The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

INTEGRATING AND INTERPRETING THE HABITATSAND BIRDS DIRECTIVES

open access: yesTilburg Law Review, 2005
4 SUMMARY 1. Much could be learned from integrative practices in front running member states with some experience with overall planning integration as described above in section 2.3. In these member states spatial planning is seen as an useful framework for balancing all environmental interests and even one planning permission comes in the picture ...

The Functional Interpretation of Direct Computations

open access: yesElectronic Notes in Theoretical Computer Science, 2011
AbstractThe concept of direct computation used by Statman (1977) was instrumental in the development of a notion of normal form for proofs of equality. In order to find a functional (Curry–Howard style) interpretation of direct computations we take a closer look at proof procedures for first-order sentences with equality drawing the attention to the ...

Case Note: Environmental Law - Harlem Valley Transportation Association v. Stafford, 500 F.2d 328 (2d Cir. 1974) [PDF]

open access: yes, 1975
This Case Note analyzes the Second Circuit\u27s decision in Harlem Valley Transportation Association v. Stafford, which held that the interstate commerce commission, as the responsible agency, must make the threshold determination of whether an ...

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Implications of EU public procurement law on water service governance: the case of Italy [PDF]

open access: yes
EU public procurement law identifies competitive tendering as the primary instrument for the selection of operators in the water sector. However, the merits of competition for the market are highly contested in the literature and theoretical debate. This

A new module system for prolog [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
It is now widely accepted that separating programs into modules has proven very useful in program development and maintenance. While many Prolog implementations include useful module systems, we feel that these systems can be improved in a number of ways,

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.
