Flat band degeneracy and near-zero refractive index materials in acoustic crystals

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2016
A Dirac-like cone is formed by utilizing the flat bands associated with localized modes in an acoustic crystal (AC) composed of a square array of core-shell-structure cylinders in a water host.

Additive Manufacturing of Continuous Fibre Reinforced Composites: Process, Characterisation, Modelling, and Sustainability

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Additive manufacturing provides precise control over the placement of continuous fibres within polymer matrices, enabling customised mechanical performance in composite components. This article explores processing strategies, mechanical testing, and modelling approaches for additive manufactured continuous fibre‐reinforced composites.

Track-Before-Detect Procedures in AM Radio-Based Passive Radar

open access: yesInternational Journal of Antennas and Propagation, 2021
In amplitude modulation radio-based passive radar, the track-before-detect (TBD) procedures are performed to process long time observation data. This work mainly focuses on the tracking of the time-Doppler and time-azimuth traces of multiple target under

Karl Popper and the Mechanisms of Hydrogen Embrittlement

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Representation of the beginning of loss of ductility rather than embrittlement. Small concentrations of hydrogen in a diffusible form within iron are well‐established to harm the mechanical integrity of steels. There are theories that attempt to explain the pernicious role of hydrogen.

Cosine-Gauss Plasmon Beam: A Localized Long-Range Nondiffracting Surface Wave [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
International audienceA new surface wave is introduced, the cosine-Gauss beam, which does not diffract while it propagates in a straight line and tightly bound to the metallic surface for distances up to 80 mu m.

Microstructure Reconstruction in Battery Electrodes Using Machine Learning Based on Low‐Voltage Focused Ion Beam–Scanning Electron Microscopy Tomography Images

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐voltage FIB‐SEM tomography combined with a image preprocessing pipeline improves phase contrast and enables reliable machine‐learning segmentation of conductive networks in lithium‐ion battery electrodes. Structural descriptors are extracted from segmented images, done semimanually and automated, and compared.

Recirculation in multiple wave conversions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
A one-dimensional multiple wave-conversion model is constructed that allows energy recirculation in ray phase space. Using a modular eikonal approach, the connection coefficients for this model are calculated by ray phase-space methods.

DEM modeling of wave propagation through jointed rock mass

open access: yes, 2013
Numerical study on wave transmission across jointed rock masses is performed with a DEM-based code UDEC. As the first step, the numerical results of wave transmission across rock joints are compared with analytical solutions and in-situ data.
