Intersecting Systems

Combinatorics, Probability and Computing, 1997
An intersecting system of type (∃, ∀, k, n) is a collection [ ]={[Fscr ]1, ..., [Fscr ]m} of pairwise disjoint families of k-subsets of an n-element set satisfying the following condition. For every ordered pair [Fscr ]i and [Fscr ]j of distinct members of [ ] there exists an A∈[Fscr ]i that intersects every B∈[Fscr ]j. Let In

Intersections

2020
Investigating the intersections of propaganda and Just War theory, this chapter delves into the significance of the power of propagandism to ‘manufacture consent’, and for people to resist those influences and use their voices to resist, to think critically, and to expose the financial gains of warmongering.

The Intersective ASCLT

Stochastic Analysis and Applications, 2004
Abstract In a recent work of the second named author on the Almost Sure Central Limit Theorem (ASCLT), we showed the usefulness of the concept of quasi-orthogonal system of random variables introduced by Bellman and later developed by Kac, Salem and Zygmund.

Intersection of Tetrahedra

ACM Transactions on Mathematical Software
When intersecting non-matching three-dimensional lattices, one needs to calculate the intersections of tetrahedra. The authors’ previously published two-dimensional triangle–triangle intersection algorithm suggests a novel approach in three dimensions based on parsimony.

Designing for Intersections

Proceedings of the 2018 Designing Interactive Systems Conference, 2018
In response to the recent call for a more intersectionally-aware field of human-computer interaction (HCI), we aim to operationalize intersectionality for technology design in HCI. We develop our lens of intersectionality by drawing on the work of Rita Kaur Dhamoon, and use it to analyze data collected from a multi-sited ethnographic study of seven low-

The length of an intersection

Mathematical Logic Quarterly, 2017
AbstractA poset is well‐partially ordered (WPO) if all its linear extensions are well orders; the supremum of ordered types of these linear extensions is the length, of p. We prove that if the vertex set X is infinite, of cardinality κ, and the ordering ⩽ is the intersection of finitely many well partial orderings of X, , then, letting , with ...

Intersection and Signed-Intersection Kernels for Intervals

2008
In this paper two kernels for interval data based on the intersection operation are introduced. On the one hand, it is demonstrated that the intersection length of two intervals is a positive definite (PD) kernel. On the other hand, a signed variant of this kernel, which also permits discriminating between disjoint intervals, is demonstrated to be a ...

On intersection and mixed intersection bodies

Geometriae Dedicata, 2008
This paper collects various inequalities for mixed intersection bodies, which are analogous (or `dual', in a heuristic sense) to inequalities for mixed projection bodies, due to Lutwak. The results are consequences of former inequalities, proved by Zhao and Leng and by Lutwak, and of Minkowski's integral inequality.

Intersections within Intersections

Abstract Transgender people who are obscure are treated differently from rich celebrities, and sex workers also experience different forms of abuse and discrimination if they are poor and unknown. Multi/mixed raced people are not fully accepted by the different racial groups in their makeup.
