Transactions of the American Mathematical Society, 1993 Given an action of \(S^ 1\) on a differentiable manifold \(M\) admitting fixed points. Here the quotient space \(M/S^ 1\) is a stratified pseudomanifold. The authors construct in this case the Gysin sequence, which relates the cohomology of \(M\) with the intersection cohomology of \(M/S^ 1\).
