Artificial Induction of Polyploidy in Blueberry Breeding: A Review

open access: yesHortScience
Blueberry planted acreage has increased rapidly during the past four decades, and blueberry consumption has kept pace. The environments across blueberry growing regions are highly heterogeneous.

Speciation with gene flow

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Biodiversity is threatened by human activities, with extinction debt accumulating rapidly. Many of these activities change the connectivity of populations, fragmenting existing population systems or bringing previously isolated populations or species into contact.

Transcriptomic stress responses in Vaccinium spp. F1 hybrids: Implications for temperature‐resilient cranberry breeding using a crop wild relative

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Climate extremes threaten the sustainability of cranberry production, a culturally and economically important North American crop. This study demonstrates that wild cranberries (Vaccinium oxycoccos) harbor genetic variation that may enhance cold stress resilience when introduced into cultivated cranberry through hybridization.

Efficient haploid production on 'Wilking' mandarin by induced gynogenesis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Seedlessness is a major criterion for the citrus fresh fruit market. Therefore, triploid breeding appears very promising for the selection of new citrus cultivars.

Interspecific somatic hybrids between Solanum bulbocastanum and S. tuberosum and their haploidization for potato breeding. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Protoplast fusion between incongruent Solanum bulbocastanum and S. tuberosum haploids was accomplished to produce hybrids combining elite traits from both parents. We identified 11 somatic hybrids out of 42 regenerants analyzed through ISSR markers. Some

Climate requirements for cultivated Liberica coffee (Coffea liberica) and consequences for its use and development as a crop species

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
The global coffee industry, supporting 25 million smallholder farmers, is vulnerable to climate change. Diversifying the coffee species portfolio beyond Arabica and robusta is a promising intervention. Liberica coffee could provide adaptive capacity, although its climate parameters for cultivation are poorly known.

On the intraspecific hybridization of two invasive mosquito species Aedes aegypti and Ae. albopictus

open access: yesЮг России: экология, развитие
Aim. To summarise the results of studies of the problem of interspecific hybridization of blood‐sucking mosquitoes Ae. aegypti and Ae. albopictus and probable consequences of this phenomenon.

Interspecific hybridization of potato: theoretical and applied aspects

open access: yesВавиловский журнал генетики и селекции, 2017
The common potato Solanum tuberosum is the fourth most important crop in the world and like many other cultivated plants is characterized by low level of genetic diversity. The most effective approach to broaden genetic diversity of breeding varieties is

Seedling resistance and chemical defenses against Psylliodes chrysocephala: the roles of seed age and sinapinic acid in Sinapis alba and Brassica napus

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
The cabbage stem flea beetle (Psylliodes chrysocephala) is a major pest of winter oilseed rape (Brassica napus). We tested B. napus and Sinapis alba seedlings for feeding resistance and underlying chemical defenses. S. alba was least damaged, while metabolite profiles revealed resistance‐linked compounds, highlighting breeding potential for insect ...

Evaluating an Interspecific Helianthus annuus × Helianthus nuttallii Line for Use in Sunflower Breeding Program

open access: yesTurkish Journal of Agriculture: Food Science and Technology, 2018
Interspecific cross was made between the common sunflower inbred line HA89 and an accession of wild Helianthus nuttallii (2n=2x=34) resistant to the most harmful disease complex and tolerant to drought and high temperature.
