Starch Synthase 3 isoforms are essential for normal starch granule initiation in wheat endosperm

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Summary Wheat grains have two distinct types of starch granules. Large, lenticular A‐type granules are formed from a single initiation per amyloplast during early grain development, while numerous small B‐type granules are initiated during later grain development.

From recognition to response: integrated signaling pathways determining pollen acceptance and rejection in Brassicaceae

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Summary Generation of competent offspring is vital for the prosperity of flowering plants. The pistil not only functions as a conduit for pollen tubes to grow to the ovary but also provides a selective venue for facilitating the growth of compatible pollen tubes and discouraging invaders and incompatible pollen.

Two Indel Variations in the Regulated Carotenoid Pigment Gene Hold the Key to the Interspecies Flower Colour Differentiation in Liriodendron Plants

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Flower colour variation is pivotal for plant evolution, ecological adaptation, and pollinator attraction. In the Liriodendron genus, L. tulipifera features a distinct orange petal stripe which is absent in L. chinense, driven by differential carotenoid accumulation, yet the underlying genetic mechanism remains unclear.
