Somatic genome‐doubling is the most parsimonious route to allopolyploidy
Summary The origin of a polyploid can hinge on a single errant cell division, a mistake in the cell cycle that leads to genome‐doubling and re‐writes the rules of chromosome pairing and segregation. In plants, the evolutionary significance of these errors is magnified by lack of an early sequestered germline, meaning somatic mutations can be heritable.

Diagnostic of Banana streak viruses (BSV) and study of their levels of prevalence and molecular diversity in Cuba [PDF]
Banana and plantain play a significant role in food security in Cuba, as reflected by the important surfaces (ca 101 000 ha) devoted to their culture. Interspecific triploid (AAB) and tetraploid (AAAB) plantain hybrids harbouring both the Musa acuminata (

ABSTRACT Clubroot, a severe soil‐borne disease caused by Plasmodiophora brassicae, poses a severe threat to global production of Brassicaceae oilseed crops and vegetables. To date, there has been a serious lack of clubroot‐resistant germplasms in Brassica napus (AACC), necessitating the urgent development of novel disease‐resistant germplasm.

Differential introgression and the maintenance of species boundaries in an advanced generation avian hybrid zone [PDF]
Background: Evolutionary processes, including selection and differential fitness, shape the introgression of genetic material across a hybrid zone, resulting in the exchange of some genes but not others.
