Disturbance, interspecific interaction and diversity in metapopulations
Biological Journal of the Linnean Society, 1991Metapopulation diversity patterns depend on the relations among the timescales of local biological interactions (predation, competition), the rates of dispersal among local populations and the patterns of disturbance. We investigate these relationships using a family of simple non-linear Markov chain models.

VARIATION IN INTERSPECIFIC INTERACTIONS

Interspecific interactions in temperate agroforestry
Agroforestry Systems, 2004The ecological principles that define the competitive and complementary interactions among trees, crops, and fauna in agroforestry systems have received considerable research attention during the recent past. These principles have not yet, however, been adequately integrated and synthesized into an operational approach.

Interspecific interactions in a methane‐utilizing mixed culture
Biotechnology and Bioengineering, 1980AbstractA two‐member methane‐utilizing mixed culture of bacteria, formed by combining two pure cultures isolated from a naturally occurring methane‐utilizing mixed culture, was studied in continuous culture. From the nutritional requirements and substrate ranges of the pure cultures, a mechanism for the interspecific interactions occurring in the mixed

Nuclear-cytoplasmic interactions in amoeba interspecific hybrids
Experimental Cell Research, 1974Abstract Interspecific hybrids between two species of amoeba, A. proteus and A. indica have been produced by reciprocal nuclear transfer after enucleating the host cells. In the hybrid cells the diameter of the transplanted nucleus changes to that characteristic of the host cell nucleus. In the combination of A. indica nucleus and A.

Heterogenous interspecific interactions in a host–parasite system
International Journal for Parasitology, 2006Macroparasites of vertebrates usually occur in multi-species communities, producing infections whose outcome in individual hosts or host populations may depend on the dynamics of interactions amongst the different component species. Within a single co-infection, competition can occur between conspecific and heterospecific parasite individuals, either ...

Stomach parasites of donkeys in Morocco: habitat and interspecific interactions
Veterinary Parasitology, 1993One hundred and four donkeys originating from several regions of Morocco were necropsied during 1 year. The parasites in their stomachs were counted and locations determined in the cardiac, fundic and pyloric portions. Synergistic or antagonistic interactions between parasites were assessed by a principal component analysis.

Interspecific Interactions II: Competition and Mutualism
2020Competition and mutualism are important forms of biotic interaction in aquatic communities. Quantification of the population and community-level effects of these interactions has historically been less common in fisheries analyses than predation. In part, this reflects the difficulties in conducting controlled experiments for larger-bodied organisms in

Interspecific Interaction and Similarity in Species Composition
The American Naturalist, 1988To resolve the controversy initiated by Connor and Simberloff's (1978) analysis of similarity among the biota of the Galapagos Islands, we analyze the theoretical relationship between interspecific interactions and similarity. A counterintuitive result from our analysis is that all interspecific interactions, including competition, tend to increase ...
