MicroRNA regulation and interspecific variation of gene expression

Trends in Genetics, 2007
MicroRNAs (miRNAs) modulate expression of their target genes in various tissues and at different developmental stages, but it is unclear whether they drive cross-species variation in gene expression. By comparing data from mammal and fly species we found that the cross-species expression variation of miRNA targets is significantly lower than that of ...

Interspecific variations in proteins synthesized by mammalian mitochondria

Canadian Journal of Biochemistry, 1978
The products of mitochondrial protein synthesis in established cell lines of various mammalian species were labelled with [35S]methionine and their number and apparent molecular weights determined by sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide slab gel electrophoresis and fluorography.

Intraspecific and interspecific genetic variation in Drosophila

Genome, 1989
Utilizing the technique of DNA – DNA hybridization, we have characterized the degree of genetic variability in single-copy DNA both within and between several species of Drosophila. The results of intraspecific variation studies indicate considerable variation both for levels of nucleotide heterozygosity (estimated to be over 2%) as well as for ...

Intra- and Interspecific Variation in Primate Gene Expression Patterns

Science, 2002
Although humans and their closest evolutionary relatives, the chimpanzees, are 98.7% identical in their genomic DNA sequences, they differ in many morphological, behavioral, and cognitive aspects. The underlying genetic basis of many of these differences may be altered gene expression.

VARIATION IN INTERSPECIFIC INTERACTIONS

Annual Review of Ecology and Systematics, 1988
Deux aspects sont etudies: la repartition des resultats,a l'interieur des populations,en fonction de la variation de l'âge et de la taille des individus,la densite,la taille et la structure des populations,ou la repartition des genotypes;et la variation des resultats en fonction de l'environnement.

Interspecific variation in the hair proteins

Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part B: Comparative Biochemistry, 1972
Abstract 1. Car☐ymethylated keratin extracts from twenty-two species of mammals and one species of bird were compared by polyacrylamide disc electrophoresis. 2. The relative mobilities of the protein bands were used to calculate coefficients of similarity between each pair of species. 3.

Studies on variation in interspecific hybrids ofSaccharum

Sugar Tech, 2000
The extent and pattern of variation were studied in F1 population of improvedS. officinarum xS. spontaneum and commercial hybrids xS. spontaneum obtained from six crosses. The study revealed the superiority of all the crosses for cane population and presence of substantial variability for further effective selection and utilisation.

Interspecific variation in epicuticular waxes of Chionochloa

Phytochemistry, 1988
Abstract Interspecific variation in 19 species of Chionochloa was investigated by examining the major carbon chain lengths of fatty acids, alcohols, aldehydes, wax esters and alkanes of the epicuticular waxes. The chain lengths ranged from C24 to C32 in the acids, alcohol and aldehydes C21 to C33 in the alkanes and C34 to C52 in the wax esters.

Interspecific variations in seed germination of Corylopsis

Scientia Horticulturae, 2008
Abstract This study was initiated to investigate the differences in germination percentages and rates between Corylopsis coreana Uyeki and Corylopsis sinensis var. calvescens Rehder & E.H. Wilson following a warm stratification (WS) and cold stratification (CS), and to study the effect of different WS temperatures interacting with different ...

Interspecific variation in leaf wax of Dudleya

Biochemical Systematics and Ecology, 1979
Abstract The distribution of the pentacylic triterpenoids, β-amyrin acetate and taraxerone, in the glaucous epicuticular wax of Dudleya subgenus Dudleya is correlated with both the geographic distribution and corolla tube length of a particular species. This is significant in a genus with many systematic problems.
