The Role of Benzonitrile Chlorination Explored by Dissociative Electron Attachment
Experimental and theoretical dissociative electron attachment study of 2‐ and 4‐chlorobenzonitrile. The dissociative electron attachment process to ortho‐ and para‐chlorobenzonitrile was investigated in the 0–12 eV energy range with a crossed‐beam time‐of‐flight mass spectrometer, supported by quantum chemical scattering calculations.

Soft X‐Ray Emission From Saturn's Magnetosheath Part I: 3D Modeling From MHD Data
Abstract Saturn's magnetosheath hosts a mixed population of water‐group neutrals and solar wind plasma. We present a 3‐D model of soft X‐ray emission by ion‐neutral charge exchange in the near‐equatorial magnetosheath. The model employs MHD simulation data of plasma properties at Saturn, Enceladus‐genic neutral populations extrapolated from existing ...

Abundances in Diffuse Interstellar Clouds [PDF]
Interstellar clouds are concentrations of cold (T ≲ 100 K) neutral gas (cf. Spitzer 1978) which are immersed within an intercloud medium. It is worthwhile to distinguish between diffuse clouds (roughly those with E[B-V] ≳ 0.5) and dark clouds (those with E[B-V] ≳ 0.5). This distinction is useful in the sense that diffuse clouds are relatively warm (T ∼

Ryugu reference project: Recommendations from the measurement definition team
Abstract Sample return missions play a significant role in planetary science by providing pristine extraterrestrial materials. JAXA's Hayabusa2 and NASA's OSIRIS‐REx missions have returned samples from the C‐type asteroids Ryugu and Bennu, respectively. The chemical and mineralogical compositions of these samples closely resemble those of CI chondrites,

For directly comparing experimental results on gas‐phase ion reactions with the predictions from quantum chemical calculations, the latter must first be converted into rate constants. This review addresses the question of whether current methods of statistical rate theory can accomplish this task reliably. Statistical rate theory has long been used for

Predicting peculiar interstellar extinction from gaseous abundances
Molecular and atomic abundances are examined for 19 lines of sight through dense clouds, each with a peculiar selective extinction curve. The interstellar clouds in the present study appear to fall into two distinct categories: CN-rich, with relatively ...

Valence Threshold Photoionization Spectra of C5$_5$H and C5$_5$H2$_2$ Isomers
Mass‐selected threshold photoelectron spectra (TPES) of l‐C5H, HC5H, and c–C3H‐CCH were recorded using double‐imaging photoelectron‐photoion coincidence spectroscopy. These transient species were generated in situ by hydrogen abstraction from cyclopropylacetylene and 1,3‐pentadiyne.

The Definitive Abundance of Interstellar Oxygen
Using the Goddard High Resolution Spectrograph (GHRS) onboard HST, we have obtained high S/N echelle observations of the weak interstellar O I 1356 A absorption toward the stars Gamma Cas, Epsilon Per, Delta Ori, Epsilon Ori, 15 Mon, Tau CMa, and Gamma Ara. In combination with previous GHRS measurements in six other sightlines (Zeta Per, Xi Per, Lambda

The H₃O⁺ ion is a key species in the oxygen chemistry leading to H₂O, OH and O₂. Chemical models predict O₂ and H₂O to be the dominant oxygen-bearing molecules in interstellar clouds.

In the ranking of cosmic abundance of the elements, carbon is the second element, after oxygen, able to form multiple bonds propagating the formation of a network, thus playing an essential role in the formation of nanometer- to micrometer-sized ...
