Unveiling the chemistry of interstellar CH: Spectroscopy of the 2 THz N = 2 <- 1 ground state line [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The methylidyne radical CH is commonly used as a proxy for H$_2$ in the cold, neutral phase of the interstellar medium. The optical spectroscopy of CH is limited by interstellar extinction, whereas far-infrared observations provide an integral view ...

Interstellar absorption lines toward Cep OB4 [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics, 2004
An analysis of optical echelle spectra towards nine stars in the Cep OB4 association is presented. Interstellar absorption lines which arise in the (1, 0) and (2,0) bands of the CN A 2 Π - X 2 Σ + red system towards BD+66° 1661, BD+66° 1674, and BD+66° 1675 are used to infer accurate CN column densities N(CN).

GHRS and ORFEUS-II Observations of the Highly Ionized Interstellar Medium Toward ESO141-055 [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
We present Goddard High Resolution Spectrograph and ORFEUS-II measurements of Si IV, CIV, N V, and O VI absorption in the interstellar medium of the Galactic disk and halo toward the nucleus of the Seyfert galaxy ESO141-055.

Debris discs with multiple absorption features in metallic lines: circumstellar or interstellar origin? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Debris disks are second generation dusty disks thought to be devoid of gas. However, this idea has been challenged in the last years by gas detections in some systems.

Discovery of Pulsed OH Maser Emission Stimulated by a Pulsar [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Stimulated emission of radiation has not been directly observed in astrophysical situations up to this time. Here we demonstrate that photons from pulsar B1641-45 stimulate pulses of excess 1720 MHz line emission in an interstellar OH cloud.

Interstellar Matter Structure along the Line of Sight to Cyg X-1

open access: yesOpen Astronomy, 2015
High-resolution spectra (R = 60 000) of Cyg X-1 = V1357 Cyg obtained with the NES echelle spectrograph of the Russian 6 meter telescope (3950–6690 Å) were used to study narrow interstellar absorption lines.

Interstellar absorption lines toward gamma Arae

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 1975
The available data on interstellar absorption lines in the spectrum of gamma Ara observed from the ground and with the Copernicus telescope have been analyzed to give column densities of various ion stages of H, C, N, O, Na, Mg, Si, P, S, Ar, Ca, Mn, and Fe.

Absorption and scattering by interstellar dust in the silicon K-edge of GX 5-1 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Context. We study the absorption and scattering of X-ray radiation by interstellar dust particles, which allows us to access the physical and chemical properties of dust. The interstellar dust composition is not well understood, especially on the densest
