Distance Determinations from 21 cm Interstellar Absorption-line Measurements [PDF]
HI observations at 21 cm have been made with the Westerbork Synthesis Radio Telescope in the direction of six planetary nebulae located in or near the galactic plane (N 7027, 2440, 6537, 6572, 7026, 7354).

Light‐activated protein‐imprinted PFPA‐functionalized hydrogels crosslink captured proteins and report protein surface accessibility as missing‐peptide patterns readable by standard LC‐MS/MS. Mass spectrometry (MS)‐based structural proteomics can reveal higher‐order structural features in complex biological samples, but many covalent footprinting and ...

The nature and origin of disky elliptical galaxies [PDF]
The observational trend that disky elliptical galaxies exhibit younger luminosity- weighted ages than boxy ellipticals is investigated. The presence of a possible young stellar disk embedded in these galaxies is explored by comparing kinematics derived ...

High-Resolution UV Absorption Observations of the Local Interstellar Cavity
International audienceWe present far-ultraviolet (1245-1680 Å), high-resolution ( R ~ 3 km s-1 ) spectroscopic observations of three early-type stars (HD 32630, HD 158427, and HD 175191) located within 75 pc of the Sun recorded with the recently ...

On the Detection of Low‐Frequency Planetary Radio Emission With an Orbiting Interferometer
Abstract The magnetized planets of the outer Solar System produce kilometric radio emissions at very low frequencies (<1 ${< } 1\,$MHz). They reveal the planetary magnetic dynamics and their interaction with the solar wind. Those radio emissions can also serve as a proxy for interplanetary space weather monitoring.

How to Imagine Educational AI: The Filling of a Pail or the Lighting of a Fire?
Abstract Recent advances in artificial intelligence (e.g., machine learning, generative AI) have led to increased interest in its application in educational settings. AI companies hope to revolutionize teaching and learning by tailoring material to the individual needs of students, automating parts of teachers' jobs, or analyzing educational data to ...

H i Kinematics and the E(B − V)/N(H i) Ratio
The λ 21 cm H i emission that is used to trace the gas-to-dust ratio at high Galactic latitudes has contributions from material beyond the Milky Way disk, with uncertain and likely subsolar metallicity and dust content.

Predicted profiles of ultraviolet interstellar absorption lines
In this paper, values of the column density, line width parameter, and velocity are determined for as many components derived from optical interstellar absorption-line profiles of Na I and K I as needed to reproduce the observed high-resolution optical profiles of the D lines of Na I toward eight lightly reddened stars and of the 7698 A line of K I ...
