ABSTRACT Planetary nebulae represent a late evolutionary phase of low‐ to intermediate‐mass stars. In this article, we present the serendipitous discovery of a previously unknown, faint potential Galactic planetary nebula (PN) in the constellation Camelopardalis, identified during a survey‐inspection, aiming at the detection of dwarf companions of the ...

Optical interstellar absorption lines toward 29 stars
Observations of optical interstellar absorption lines of Ti II, Ca II, and/or Na I acquired at an instrumental resolution typically of 5.6 km/s are reported for 29 stars. The data were recorded primarily with a Digicon detector and achieve 2 sigma detection limits generally near an equivalent width of 1 mA.

Interstellar absorption lines in the spectrum of Gamma Velorum
Copernicus scans of selected interstellar absorption lines in the UV spectrum of Gamma Vel are analyzed, together with ground-based data, to obtain column densities for various ion states of C, N, O, Na, Mg, Al, Si, P, S, Cl, Ar, Ca, Mn, Fe, and CO. N I and O I are fitted to a single empirical curve of growth with a velocity parameter (b) of 8 km/s; Mg

Abstract Cherenkov detectors have been used in space for decades to measure Galactic Cosmic Rays (GCRs), Solar Energetic Particles (SEPs) and trapped particles. We present proof‐of‐concept GRAS/Geant4 simulations to both show that a cubic fused silica Cherenkov detector with SiPM in LEO has a good sensitivity to SEP and GCR protons as a function of cut‐

The nova T Pyx was observed with high resolution spectroscopy (R ~ 65000) spectroscopy, beginning 1 day after discovery of the outburst and continuing through the last visibility of the star at the end of May 2011. The interstellar absorption lines of Na

The Constraint of Crewed Mars Missions Based on Current Radiation Dose Measurements
Abstract Crewed missions to Mars will be a milestone of future space exploration programs. However, the absence of Earth's magnetic field leaves astronauts directly exposed to unattenuated energetic particles in deep space, primarily galactic cosmic rays (GCRs), resulting in significantly higher radiation levels and enhanced health risks. Understanding

Molecules in the transition disk orbiting T Cha
We seek to establish the presence and properties of gas in the circumstellar disk orbiting T Cha, a nearby (d~110 pc), relatively evolved (age ~5-7 Myr) yet actively accreting 1.5 Msun T Tauri star.

A Study of Interstellar Gas and Stars in the Gravitationally Lensed Galaxy `The Cosmic Eye' from Rest-Frame Ultraviolet Spectroscopy [PDF]
We report the results of a study of the rest-frame UV spectrum of the Cosmic Eye, a luminous Lyman break galaxy at z=3.07331 gravitationally lensed by a factor of 25.
