Interstellar scintillation and the interstellar turbulent plasma

Astronomical and Astrophysical Transactions, 2002
Data on interstellar diffractive and refractive scintillation of pulsars are analyzed. The comparison between the theory and the observational data shows that two types of spectra for electron density fluctuations are realized in the interstellar medium: simple power law and piecewise with a break. The distribution of turbulent plasma in the Galaxy has

In Situ Observations of Interstellar Plasma with Voyager 1

Science, 2013
Finally Out Last summer, it was not clear if the Voyager 1 spacecraft had finally crossed the heliopause—the boundary between the heliosphere and interstellar space. Gurnett et al. (p.

The interstellar plasma

Il Nuovo Cimento, 1959
Observational data and studies on material in the galactic system are reviewed. Mechanisms of radio emission are discussed relative to thermal radiation, synchrotron radiation, and the existence of non-thermal radiation. Observational data on the shell and the inner part of the Crab nebula are considered along with properties such as synchrotron ...

The outer turbulence scale in the interstellar plasma

Astronomy Reports, 2002
The structure function for phase fluctuations on spatial scales from 106 to 1017 m is constructed using data on diffractive and refractive scintillation of pulsars, scattering angles, variations in pulse arrival times, and differences in dispersion measures observed for close pairs of pulsars in globular clusters.

Infrared Emission From Interstellar Plasma

Astrophysics and Space Science, 1988
Small dust grains in hot interstellar plasmas are heated by electrons and emit near-infrared radiation. Its flux is estimated to be larger than that from small dust grains heated by stellar radiation and could explain the high infrared flux observed at wavelengths of about 5 µm.

Plasma processing of interstellar PAHs into solar system kerogen

Planetary and Space Science, 1995
Processes resulting in the formation of hydrocarbons of carbonaceous chondrites and the identity of the interstellar molecular precursors involved are an objective of investigations into the origin of the solar system and perhaps even life on earth.
