Luminosity class of the symbiotic stars 4U1954+319 and ZZ CMi [PDF]

open access: yesSerbian Astronomical Journal
We performed optical photometry and spectral observations of the symbiotic stars 4U1954+319 and ZZ CMi. For 4U1954+319, using high-resolution spectra, we, measure the equivalent widths of diffuse interstellar bands (DIBs) and estimate the interstellar ...

Interstellar reddening correction using He I lines

open access: yes, 2022
We present a method to derive the logarithmic extinction coefficient in optical wavelengths using the emission lines of HeI. Using this procedure we can avoid selection biases when studying regions with different surface brightness and we can obtain better measurements of temperature lines, for example [SIII]6312.

Spectroscopy and BVI photometry of the young open cluster NGC 6604 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
BVI photometry (from South Africa Astron. Obs.), Echelle high resolution spectroscopy and AFOSC integral field spectroscopy (from Asiago, Italy) of the young open cluster NGC 6604 are presented. Age, distance, reddening, membership, radial and rotational

The Shape of the Interstellar Reddening Curve [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Astronomical Union Colloquium, 1965
When the Observed Spectral Intensity Distribution of an early-type star has been freed from the distortions caused by absorption in the Earth's atmosphere and by instrumental sensitivity factors, it is a measure of the true spectral intensity distribution of the star and of the modifications to that distribution caused by the interstellar material ...

Diverse reddening distributions in sight lines for type Ia supernovae

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
Context. Accurate cosmological constraints from type Ia supernovae (SNe) require sufficiently accurate corrections for host-galaxy extinction. Modelling these corrections is challenged by the problem of disentangling the SN’s intrinsic colours from host ...

The Correlation of Interstellar Reddening and Lα Absorption [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1973
For 61 stars whose interstellar Lα absorption was observed by OAO-2, the average relation of H I column density to B – V color excess is equal to 5 × 1021 atoms cm–2 mag–1. For a recent dust grain model this value implies that the density ratio 〈ρHI/ρdust〉 ≈ 100.

PLATO as it is: A legacy mission for Galactic archaeology

open access: yesAstronomische Nachrichten, Volume 338, Issue 6, Page 644-661, July 2017., 2017
Deciphering the assembly history of the Milky Way is a formidable task, which becomes possible only if one can produce high‐resolution chrono‐chemo‐kinematical maps of the Galaxy. Data from large‐scale astrometric and spectroscopic surveys will soon provide us with a well‐defined view of the current chemo‐kinematical structure of the Milky Way, but it ...

Interstellar Reddening Towards S188, Hw4 and We1–6 [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1993
Photoelectric UBV photometry of stars was carried out in the angular vicinity (radius = 15′) of 3 planetary nebulae. An extinction distance relation was constructed for the line of sight towards each planetary nebula. This relation was verified by published data on nearby stars and star clusters. The distances derived are 850 ± 300 pc for PK 128 −04 1 (

Spectral Energy Distribution and Interstellar Reddening (Review Paper) [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Astronomical Union Colloquium, 1987
AbstractWe review the recent results on flux distribution of Be stars from 320 to 850nm. It appears that data are available for only 10 to 15 % of the objects recognized as “normal” Be stars. The main current problems appear to be the variability of the continuous radiation, and the correction for interstellar reddening. Various attempts to solve these

Interstellar extinction towards open clusters and galactic structure

open access: yes, 2005
We study the distribution of interstellar matter near the galactic plane on the basis of open star clusters and reviewed the correlation of extinction with different physical parameters of the clusters to understand the galactic structure.
