The Shape of the Interstellar Reddening Curve [PDF]
When the Observed Spectral Intensity Distribution of an early-type star has been freed from the distortions caused by absorption in the Earth's atmosphere and by instrumental sensitivity factors, it is a measure of the true spectral intensity distribution of the star and of the modifications to that distribution caused by the interstellar material ...

The Correlation of Interstellar Reddening and Lα Absorption [PDF]
For 61 stars whose interstellar Lα absorption was observed by OAO-2, the average relation of H I column density to B – V color excess is equal to 5 × 1021 atoms cm–2 mag–1. For a recent dust grain model this value implies that the density ratio 〈ρHI/ρdust〉 ≈ 100.

The use of Planetary Nebulae precursors in the study of Diffuse Interstellar Bands [PDF]
We present the first results of a systematic search for Diffuse Interstellar Bands in a carefully selected sample of post-AGB stars observed with high resolution optical spectroscopy.

Analysis of Interstellar Extinction towards the Hypergiant Cyg OB2 No. 12
The Cyg OB2 stellar association hosts an entire zoo of unique objects, and among them – an enigmatic star Cyg OB2 No. 12 (Schulte 12, MT 304). MT 304 is enigmatic not only due to its highest luminosity (according to various estimates, it is one of the ...

SpeX Near-infrared Spectroscopic Extinction Curves in the Milky Way
Interstellar dust extinction curves provide valuable information about dust properties, including the composition and size of the dust grains, and are essential to correct observations for the effects of interstellar dust.

Luminosity class of the symbiotic stars 4U1954+319 and ZZ CMi [PDF]
We performed optical photometry and spectral observations of the symbiotic stars 4U1954+319 and ZZ CMi. For 4U1954+319, using high-resolution spectra, we, measure the equivalent widths of diffuse interstellar bands (DIBs) and estimate the interstellar ...

The incompatibilities between the standard theory of interstellar extinction and observations [PDF]
In this paper I review a series of observations which do not agree with the standard interpretation of the extinction curve. The consequence is that light we receive from a reddened star must be contaminated by starlight scattered at very small angular ...

Dust Around R Coronae Borealis Stars. I. Spitzer/Infrared Spectrograph Observations [PDF]
Spitzer/infrared spectrograph (IRS) spectra from 5 to 37 mu m for a complete sample of 31 R Coronae Borealis stars (RCBs) are presented. These spectra are combined with optical and near-infrared photometry of each RCB at maximum light to compile a ...

Diverse reddening distributions in sight lines for type Ia supernovae
Context. Accurate cosmological constraints from type Ia supernovae (SNe) require sufficiently accurate corrections for host-galaxy extinction. Modelling these corrections is challenged by the problem of disentangling the SN’s intrinsic colours from host ...
