VV 191 is a nearby ( z ∼ 0.05), overlapping (occulting) galaxy pair, where a multiple-armed spiral galaxy is backlit by an elliptical galaxy. The overlap is used to derive and map dust attenuation in two James Webb Space Telescope NIRCam filters (F090W ...

The distance to the young cluster NGC 7129 and its age
The dust cloud TGU H645 P2 and embedded in it young open cluster NGC 7129 are investigated using the results of medium-band photometry of 159 stars in the Vilnius seven-colour system down to V = 18.8 mag.

The Flattest Infrared Extinction Curve in Four Isolated Dense Molecular Cloud Cores
The extinction curve of interstellar dust in the dense molecular cloud cores is crucial for understanding dust properties, particularly size distribution and composition.

Absorption-Line Probes of Gas and Dust in Galactic Superwinds
We discuss moderate resolution spectra of the NaD absorption-line in a sample of 32 far-IR-bright starburst galaxies. In 18 cases, the line is produced primarily by interstellar gas, and in 12 of these it is blueshifted by over 100 km/s relative to the ...

Probing the Distinct Extinction Law of the Pillars of Creation in M16 with JWST
Investigating the extinction law in regions of high dust extinction, such as the Pillars of Creation within the M16 region, is crucial for understanding the densest parts of the interstellar medium (ISM).

Two New LBV Candidates in the M33 Galaxy
We present two new luminous blue variable (LBV) candidate stars discovered in the M33 galaxy. We identified these stars (Valeev et al. 2010) as massive star candidates at the final stages of evolution, presumably with a notable interstellar extinction ...

The viability of the star count (Wolf) method is assessed as a means of constraining the near-infrared (NIR) extinction law toward the Corona Australis molecular cloud. Using deep JHK _S photometry from the VISIONS survey, extinction maps with 1′ spatial

Observations of interstellar C2 toward three heavily reddened stars
Observations have been made of the 2--0 band of the Phillips system of interstellar C/sub 2/ toward the heavily obscured early-type stars VI Cygni No. 12, HD 29647, and BD +66/sup 0/1675. The first direct proof that the rotational excitation temperatures of interstellar C/sub 2/ are nonthermal was obtained. Toward VI Cygni No.

A medium-band 12-color photometric system, based on the decontaminated Gaia BP/RP spectra, has been proposed in our Paper II. Here we analyze a possibility to apply some versions of this system for the determination of temperatures and gravities of stars

DIFFUSE INTERSTELLAR BAND 6202 ˚ A AS AN INDICATOR OF ORGANIC MATTER IN COSMOS: CEPHEID SPECTRA
We have described the method of investigation of the diffuse interstellar band (DIB) at 6202 ˚ A. This DIB is seen in the spectra of cepheid stars, and it is blended with two stellar lines of Ce II (6201.773 ˚ A) and Ni I (6204.6 ˚ A).
