The Intertidal Zone

1988
On most coasts the tide’s amplitude is large enough to expose and cover a strip of land, the intertidal zone, twice each day. The cause and variability of tides have already been discussed (Chapter 2). Here we shall consider the intertidal environment and the animals and plants living in it.

Intertidal Wetlands

1996
Abstract Intertidal wetlands (Fig. 5.1) are an ecotone or transitional zone between marine, estuarine and terrestrial ecosystems. The transitional nature of the environment from land to saltwater creates gradients or zones in which the species composition and ecological processes change (15,25,26).
