Intertropical convergence zone variability in the Neotropics during the Common Era. [PDF]
Neotropics data evince expansion and contraction of the inter-tropical convergence zone due to cooling and warming, respectively.

Large deglacial shifts of the Pacific Intertropical Convergence Zone. [PDF]
AbstractThe position of the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) is sensitive to changes in the balance of heat between the hemispheres which has fundamental implications for tropical hydrology and atmospheric circulation. Although the ITCZ is thought to experience the largest shifts in position during deglacial stadial events, the magnitude of shifts

A climate network perspective on the intertropical convergence zone [PDF]
Abstract. The intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) is an important component of the tropical rain belt. Climate models continue to struggle to adequately represent the ITCZ and differ substantially in its simulated response to climate change. Here we employ complex network approaches, which extract spatiotemporal variability patterns from climate data,

Cloud components of the Intertropical Convergence Zone [PDF]
This study explores the roles of different synoptic‐scale cloud systems in the making of the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ). Outgoing longwave radiation (OLR) data are used to represent both the mean ITCZ and cloud systems. An OLR threshold of 205 W m−2 is used to distinguish daily mean deep convective clouds from nondeep clouds.

Influence of the intertropical convergence zone on the East Asian monsoon [PDF]
The Asian-Australian monsoon is an important component of the Earth's climate system that influences the societal and economic activity of roughly half the world's population. The past strength of the rain-bearing East Asian summer monsoon can be reconstructed with archives such as cave deposits, but the winter monsoon has no such signature in the ...

Structure of the intertropical convergence zone over the GATE area [PDF]
The meridional structure of wind, temperature, and moisture of the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) over the GATE observational area is presented. The structure is obtained by compositing rawinsonde observations with respect to the surface wind confluence line.

Energetic Constraints on the Position of the Intertropical Convergence Zone [PDF]
The intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) can shift meridionally on seasonal and longer time scales. Previous studies have shown that the latitude of the ITCZ is negatively correlated with cross-equatorial atmospheric energy transport. For example, the ITCZ shifts southward as the Northern Hemisphere cools and the northward cross-equatorial energy ...

Dynamics of the Atlantic Marine Intertropical Convergence Zone
AbstractA generalized ω‐equation is used to identify the contributions from different processes that force upward motions in the Atlantic Marine ITCZ (AMI) from a numerical mesoscale simulation of June 2010. This ω‐equation separates the diabatic heating contributions, which lie at the core of the Weak Temperature Gradient (WTG) framework, from the ...

Dynamics of disturbances on the Intertropical Convergence Zone [PDF]
AbstractThe dynamics of disturbances on a theoretically derived Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) are studied.Radiative cooling over a hemisphere is parameterized by a Newtonian cooling law, relative to a radiative equilibrium temperature which decreases from Equator to Pole.
