Optimisation of Intervertebral Disc Mechanical Properties and the Impact of Vertebral Alignment in Subject‐Specific Finite Element Models [PDF]

open access: yesInternational journal for numerical methods in biomedical engineering
Optimisation methods were compared for a porcine lumbar intervertebral disc model. Neither optimising with 6‐axis forces and moments nor optimising with disc pressures fully captured spinal behaviour. Addressing model limitations could improve the process.

Research on the influence of the properties of intervertebral disc stiffness of the lumbar spine on the displacement of veretbrae / Stuburo juosmeninės dalies tarpslankstelinio disko standumo charakteristikų įtakos slankstelių poslinkiams tyrimas

open access: diamondMokslas: Lietuvos Ateitis, 2015
The article proposes the method for evaluating angular and linear changes in intervertebral discs of the spine depending on linear and nonlinear intervertebral disc stiffness. A dynamic made of 5 solid bodies connected by damping and stiffness components

Mechanical influence of facet tropism in patients with chronic discogenic pain disorder [PDF]

open access: yesBone & Joint Research
Aims: The presence of facet tropism has been correlated with an elevated susceptibility to lumbar disc pathology. Our objective was to evaluate the impact of facet tropism on chronic lumbosacral discogenic pain through the analysis of clinical data and ...

Human Disc Degeneration Is Accompanied by a Loss of Anterior Annulus Fibrosus Interlamellar Matrix Integrity as Assessed by Peel Tests. [PDF]

open access: yesJOR Spine
Disc degeneration (DD) is associated with reduced mechanical integrity of the interlamellar matrix (ILM) in the annulus fibrosus (AF), as demonstrated by significantly lower Peel Stiffness, Peel Strength, Peel Toughness, and Standard Deviation of the Peel Stress in the Peel Region in DD samples compared to non‐DD samples.

Management of a Rare Case of C2–3 Cervical Foraminal Disc Herniation by Unilateral Biportal Endoscopic Foraminotomy [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery and Technique, 2023
Foraminal disc herniation at the C2–3 level is a very rare entity, for which a consensus treatment protocol has not been established. This case report explains that unilateral biportal endoscopic foraminotomy is a very effective, minimally invasive, and ...

Reproducing morphological features of intervertebral disc using finite element modeling to predict the course of cervical spine dorsopathy

open access: yesRussian Open Medical Journal, 2022
Study objective — To evaluate how morphological features of intervertebral disc would affect the outcomes of finite element modeling of axial load in the cervical spine, C3-C5, in order to predict the risk of occurrence and course of dorsopathies ...
