The power of microRNA regulation—insights into immunity and metabolism
MicroRNAs are emerging as crucial regulators at the intersection of metabolism and immunity. This review examines how miRNAs coordinate glucose and lipid metabolism while simultaneously modulating T‐cell development and immune responses. Moreover, it highlights how cutting‐edge artificial intelligence applications can identify miRNA biomarkers ...

Crosstalk between gut microbiota and tumor: tumors could cause gut dysbiosis and metabolic imbalance
In this research, we analyzed the relationship between gut microbiota and tumor. We discovered that both subcutaneous and metastatic tumors would alter the composition and metabolic function of gut microbiota. Meanwhile, fecal microbiota transplantation also indicated the anti‐tumor role of the gut microbiota, revealing the crosstalk between tumor and ...

Indirect transmission and the effect of seasonal pathogen inactivation on infectious disease periodicity [PDF]
The annual occurrence of many infectious diseases remains a constant burden to public health systems. The seasonal patterns in respiratory disease incidence observed in temperate regions have been attributed to the impact of environmental conditions on pathogen survival.

The role of the lung microbiota and the gut–lung axis in respiratory infectious diseases
The pulmonary microbial community, described only a few years ago, forms a discreet part of the human host microbiota. The airway microbiota has been found to be substantially altered in the context of numerous respiratory disorders; nonetheless, its ...

NAD+ regeneration by mitochondrial complex I NADH dehydrogenase is important for cancer cell proliferation. Specifically, NAD+ is necessary for the activities of NAD+‐dependent deacetylases SIRT3 and SIRT7, which suppress the expression of p21Cip1 cyclin‐dependent kinase inhibitor, an antiproliferative molecule, at the translational and transcriptional

The magnitude and distribution of infectious intestinal disease in Malta: a population-based study
SUMMARYRoutine sources of information on infectious intestinal disease (IID) capture a fraction of the actual disease burden. Population studies are required to measure the burden of illness. A retrospective age-stratified cross-sectional telephone study was carried out in Malta in order to estimate the magnitude and distribution of IID at population ...

TOMM20 increases cancer aggressiveness by maintaining a reduced state with increased NADH and NADPH levels, oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS), and apoptosis resistance while reducing reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels. Conversely, CRISPR‐Cas9 knockdown of TOMM20 alters these cancer‐aggressive traits.

Ascariasis in a 75-year-old man with small bowel volvulus: a case report
Background Ascaris lumbricoides and Ascaris suum are the most common soil-transmitted helminths of humans and pigs, respectively. The zoonotic potential of A. suum has been a matter of debate for decades.

AI-Based Decadal Predictive Analysis of Twenty Infectious Diseases in China with an Improved BSTS-MCMC Model [PDF]
This study embarks on a comprehensive exploration of the decadal trends and future trajectories of twenty distinct infectious diseases in China from 1998 to 2021. A refined Hybrid Bayesian Structural Time Series (BSTS)-Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) model is employed, intertwining with Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) networks to dissect intricate ...
