The arteriolar vasodilatation model of vibrio cholerae induced diarrhoeal disease [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Secretory diarrhoeal disease caused by enterotoxins produced by pathogenic bacteria is characterised by severe fluid loss into the intestine. A prevalent explanation for such high rates of loss, such as occur in episodes of cholera, is that intestinal ...

Evaluation by computerized morphometry of histopathological alterations of the colon wall in segments with and without intestinal transit in rats Avaliação por morfometria computadorizada das alterações histopatológicas da parede cólica em segmentos com e sem trânsito intestinal em ratos

open access: yesActa Cirúrgica Brasileira, 2008
PURPOSE: To evaluate histopathological alterations of the colon wall in segments with and without intestinal transit, by computer-assisted imaging, and to correlate these with the length of time diversion.

HIC1 suppresses Tumor Progression and Enhances CD8+ T Cells Infiltration Through Promoting GSDMD‐induced Pyroptosis in Gastric Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
These findings elucidate the innovative role of HIC1 as a transcriptional activator in GC, driving the initiation of pyroptosis and enhancing CD8+ T cell infiltration, which has certain novelty and creative significance. Collectively, targeting HIC1 can present an appealing immunotherapeutic strategy to improve outcomes in GC patients.

Polypoidal Intestinal Metaplasia and Dysplasia of the External Urethral Meatus

open access: yesCase Reports in Nephrology, 2012
Urethral mucosa with intestinal metaplasia and dysplasia is a rare occurrence. To date only a single case has been reported in a male with long-standing urethral stricture. We present a 33-year-old female with polypoid intestinal metaplasia and dysplasia

Asymmetric Fluid Flow in Helical Pipes Inspired by Shark Intestines [PDF]

open access: yesProc. Natl. Acad. Sci. U.S.A. 121 (40) e2406481121 (2024)
Unlike human intestines, which are long, hollow tubes, the intestines of sharks and rays contain interior helical structures surrounding a cylindrical hole. One function of these structures may be to create asymmetric flow, favoring passage of fluid down the digestive tract, from anterior to posterior.

Maternal milk and fecal microbes guide the spatiotemporal development of mucosa-associated microbiota and barrier function in the porcine neonatal gut

open access: yesBMC Biology, 2019
Background The early-life microbiota exerts a profound and lifelong impact on host health. Longitudinal studies in humans have been informative but are mostly based on the analysis of fecal samples and cannot shed direct light on the early development of

Gut Microbiota Modulation by Inulin Improves Metabolism and Ovarian Function in Polycystic Ovary Syndrome

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work proposes a novel strategy targeting gut microbiota for managing polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Inulin, a gut microbiota modulator, notably boosts the growth of short‐chain fatty acids (SCFAs)‐producers, represented by Bifidobacterium, thereby improving glucolipid metabolism and ovarian function of PCOS through suppressing the inflammatory ...
