Multitargeted Low-Dose GLAD Combination Chemoprevention: A Novel and Promising Approach to Combat Colon Carcinogenesis [PDF]

open access: yes, 1967
Preclinical studies have shown that gefitinib, licofelone, atorvastatin, and α-difluoromethylornithine (GLAD) are promising colon cancer chemopreventive agents.

Evaluation of the Dual Impact of Nanotechnologies on Health and Environment Through Alternative Bridging Models

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This review explores how alternative invertebrate and small‐vertebrate models advance the evaluation of nanomaterials across medicine and environmental science. By bridging cellular and organismal levels, these models enable integrated assessment of toxicity, biodistribution, and therapeutic performance.

Superpixel Based Segmentation and Classification of Polyps in Wireless Capsule Endoscopy

open access: yes, 2017
Wireless Capsule Endoscopy (WCE) is a relatively new technology to record the entire GI trace, in vivo. The large amounts of frames captured during an examination cause difficulties for physicians to review all these frames.

Tobacco Smoke Exposure From Prenatal To Adolescent Periods Drives IBD Pathogenesis: Dynamic DNA Methylation Signatures Across Lifespan Stages

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study illustrates that maternal smoking during pregnancy (MSDP) is an independent risk factor for IBD in offspring, and DNA methylation serves as a key mechanistic pathway connecting early‐life smoking exposure with IBD risk in offspring. That highlights the urgent need for preventive interventions targeting prospective parents and minors to ...

Comparative Validation of Polyp Detection Methods in Video Colonoscopy: Results from the MICCAI 2015 Endoscopic Vision Challenge [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Colonoscopy is the gold standard for colon cancer screening though still some polyps are missed, thus preventing early disease detection and treatment. Several computational systems have been proposed to assist polyp detection during colonoscopy but so ...

Colorectal Cancer Cell's Weapon: RNF32 Engages SPP1+ Macrophages to Foster Liver Metastasis, Targeted by Indole‐3‐Acetic Acid

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Cytoplasmic RNF32 fuels CRC liver metastasis by degrading GSK3β, which stabilizes β‐catenin and activates Wnt/EMT. Moreover, RNF32 rewires the metastatic niche: it depletes CD8+/CD4+ T and NK cells while recruiting SPP1+ macrophages (which boost tumor stemness via CD44), fibroblasts, and immunosuppressive monocytes to aid colonization.
