Occurrence of Prostaglandin E Like Substances in Dog Large Intestine.

open access: yes, 1969
Prostaglandin like substances (PG-S) which show a smooth muscle stimulating activity and a blood pressure lowering effect in rabbits, were extracted from the large intestine of the dog. An attempt to identify these substances with prostaglandins was made

Human Gut Bacteria and Lipidic Nanoparticles: Particle Composition Predicts Structural Transformation and Bacterial Biocompatibility

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Lipidic nanoparticles (LNPs) were incubated with 21 gut bacteria frequently associated with the human microbiome. SAXS revealed that ∼75% of tested species induced structural transformations in monoolein LNPs, whereas phytantriol and phospholipid formulations remained unaffected.

Diversity and community of methanogens in the large intestine of finishing pigs

open access: yesBMC Microbiology, 2019
Background Methane emissions from pigs account for 10% of total methane production from livestock in China. Methane emissions not only contribute to global warming, as it has 25 times the global warming potential (GWP) of CO2, but also represent ...

Multimodal Soft Surgical Robots Enabled by Eco‐Degradable, Sterilizable Polymers and Transient Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A compostable PGS soft surgical robot with interchangeable modules integrates transient Mo tactile and Si thermal sensors for dual feedback. The device preserves its function after clinical‐grade sterilization, demonstrates stable actuation and cardiac tissue grasping with real‐time in vivo pulsatile monitoring, and biodegrades post‐use with soil‐safe,

Characteristics of the Gut Microbiota in Different Segments of the Gastrointestinal Tract of Big-Eyed Bamboo Snake (Pseudoxenodon macrops)

open access: yesAnimals
Snakes are model animals to study energy balance, but studies on the gut microbiota of the animals are rather scarce. To fill the gap, we used metagenome sequencing to investigate the microbial community composition and adaptability in the stomach, small

Development and function of secondary and tertiary lymphoid organs in the small intestine and the colon

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2016
The immune system of the gut has evolved a number of specific lymphoid structures that contribute to homeostasis in the face of microbial colonization and food-derived antigenic challenge. These lymphoid organs encompass Peyer’s patches (PP) in the small

Protein synthesis during the developmental growth of the small and large intestine of the rat [PDF]

open access: yes, 1984
The developmental growth and associated changes in protein synthesis were measured (in vivo) in the combined small and large intestine from 18 days in utero to 105 weeks post partum.

Engineering Pendant Group Chemistry to Control Hydrophilicity and Oxidative Degradation of Thioketal‐Based Biomaterials

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Thioketal (TK) polymers are promising biomaterials due to their selective biodegradation by reactive oxygen species (ROS), but they respond slowly to physiologic doses of ROS. Here, the TK bond's pendant groups are modified to enhance the degradation of TK‐based implants both in vitro and in vivo.
