Kelvin-Helmholtz instability in a weakly ionized layer [PDF]

open access: yesAstrophys.SpaceSci.312:79-84,2007, 2007
We study the linear theory of Kelvin-Helmholtz instability in a layer of ions and neutrals with finite thickness. In the short wavelength limit the thickness of the layer has a negligible effect on the growing modes. However, perturbations with wavelength comparable to layer's thickness are significantly affected by the thickness of the layer.

Associations of depression-anxiety and dyslipidaemia with subclinical carotid arterial disease: Findings from the Whitehall II Study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Aims There is mixed evidence for an association between depression and/or anxiety and carotid intima-media thickness, and limited information on the related role of dyslipidaemia.

Miniaturized Devices for On‐the‐Spot Generation of Small‐Diameter Vascular Grafts

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
An intracorporeal extrusion device is developed for on‐the‐spot generation of vascular grafts with tunable diameters spanning from 1 to 6 mm. The device uses biomimetic polymers and light, to promptly obtaining biocompatible and high‐burst pressure‐resistant grafts.

Relationship of the metabolic syndrome to carotid ultrasound traits

open access: yesCardiovascular Ultrasound, 2006
Background The metabolic syndrome is associated with increased vascular disease risk. We evaluated two carotid ultrasound measurements, namely intima media thickness and total plaque volume, in a Canadian Oji-Cree population with a high metabolic ...

Research progress of improving subclinical atherosclerosis with exercise

open access: yesShanghai yufang yixue, 2023
Atherosclerosis is the main cause of cardiovascular diseases, while Carotid intima-media thickness is a biomarker of subclinical atherosclerosis. Numerous studies have confirmed that exercise can slow down or even reverse the formation and progression of

The Segmentation of Ultrasound Images for Artery Wall Detection and Intima-Media Thickness Measurement [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013

Intrauterine growth restriction is associated with persistent aortic wall thickening and glomerular proteinuria during infancy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Low birth weight, caused either by preterm birth or by intrauterine growth restriction, has recently been associated with increased rates of adult renal and cardiovascular disease.

Imaging of atherosclerosis: carotid intima-media thickness [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Heart Journal, 2010
Carotid ultrasound provides quantitative measurements of carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT) that can be used to assess cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk in individuals and monitor ongoing disease progression and regression in clinical trials. It is non-invasive, rapid, reproducible, and carries no risk.

Artesunate Inhibits Neointimal Hyperplasia by Promoting IRF4 Associated Macrophage Polarization

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study shows that macrophage interferon regulatory factor 4 (IRF4) improved arterial injury‐induced neointimal hyperplasia by promoting of M2 polarization via up‐regulating krüppel‐like factor 4 (KLF4) in rodent and nonhuman primate models. Notably, artesunate is identified as a potent inducer of IRF4 in macrophages, and proposed as a promising ...

Ghrelin Does not Alter Aortic Intima-Media Thickness and Adipose Tissue Characteristics in Control and Obese Mice [PDF]

open access: yesIranian Journal of Basic Medical Sciences, 2013
Objective(s): Atherosclerosis is a chronic immune-inflammatory disease that generally leads to ischemic heart disease. Ghrelin has several modulatory effects on cardiovascular system.
