Two Distinct, Geographically Overlapping Lineages of the Corallimorpharian Ricordea Florida (Cnidaria: Hexacorallia: Ricordeidae) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
We examined the genetic variation of the corallimorpharian Ricordea florida; it is distributed throughout the Caribbean region and is heavily harvested for the marine aquarium trade. Eighty-four distinct individuals of R. florida were sequenced from four

Subtype‐specific enhancer RNAs define transcriptional regulators and prognosis in breast cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study employed machine learning methodologies to perform the subtype‐specific classification of RNA‐seq data sets, which are mapped on enhancers from TCGA‐derived breast cancer patients. Their integration with gene expression (referred to as ProxCReAM eRNAs) and chromatin accessibility profiles has the potential to identify lineage‐specific and ...

Intra-individual variation of sperm DNA fragmentation in the Human ejaculate

open access: yesSystems Biology in Reproductive Medicine, 2023
This retrospective study assessed the biological intra-individual variability of the percentage of sperm with DNA damage (SDF) observed in subsequent ejaculates of the same individual. Variation in SDF was analyzed using the Mean Signed Difference (MSD) statistic based on 131 individuals, comprising 333 ejaculates.

Feasibility of following up gamma-hydroxybutyric acid concentrations in sodium oxybate (Xyrem®)-treated narcoleptic patients using dried blood spot sampling at home : an exploratory study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Background: Gamma-hydroxybutyric acid (GHB), well known as a party drug, especially in Europe, is also legally used (sodium oxybate, Xyrem (R)) to treat a rare sleep disorder, narcolepsy with cataplexy.

Establishment of a humanized patient‐derived xenograft mouse model of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer for preclinical evaluation of combination immunotherapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We have established a humanized orthotopic patient‐derived xenograft (Hu‐oPDX) mouse model of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC) that recapitulates human tumor–immune interactions. Using combined anti‐PD‐L1/anti‐CD73 immunotherapy, we demonstrate the model's improved biological relevance and enhanced translational value for preclinical ...

Associations Between Developmental Stability, Canalization, and Phenotypic Plasticity in Response to Heterogeneous Experience

open access: yesEcology and Evolution
The processes of developmental stability, canalization, and phenotypic plasticity have ecological and evolutionary significance, and been studied extensively, but mostly separately and thus the relationships between them are not straightforward.

Intra-Individual Variation: Significant Changes in Parameters of Lipid and Carbohydrate Metabolism in the Individual and Intra-Individual Variation in Different Test Populations [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical Biochemistry: International Journal of Laboratory Medicine, 1985
Fasting serum triglyceride, cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, HDL2&3 cholesterol, fasting plasma glucose and insulin and haemoglobin A1 were measured under standardised conditions in a group of laboratory volunteers. Intra-individual variation was calculated for each parameter from weekly measurements on at least eleven successive occassions, and the ...

Study of inter- and intra-individual variations in the salivary microbiota [PDF]

open access: yesBMC Genomics, 2010
Oral bacterial communities contain species that promote health and others that have been implicated in oral and/or systemic diseases. Culture-independent approaches provide the best means to assess the diversity of oral bacteria because most of them remain uncultivable. The salivary microbiota from five adults was analyzed at three time-points by means ...

ALS With and Without Upper Motor Neuron Signs: A Comparative Study Supporting the Gold Coast Criteria

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective The Gold Coast criteria permit diagnosis of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) even without upper motor neuron (UMN) signs. However, whether ALS patients with UMN signs (ALSwUMN) and those without (ALSwoUMN) share similar characteristics and prognoses remains unclear.

Multidimensionality and intra-individual variation in host manipulation by an acanthocephalan [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Trophically-transmitted parasites frequently alter multiple aspects of their host's phenotype. Correlations between modified characteristics may suggest how different traits are mechanistically related, but these potential relationships remain unexplored.
