Nonthermal support for the outer intracluster medium [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics, 2010
We submit that non thermalized support for the outer intracluster medium in relaxed galaxy clusters is provided by turbulence, driven by inflows of intergalactic gas across the virial accretion shocks. We expect this component to increase briskly during the cluster development for z<1/2, due to three factors.

Heating of the intracluster medium

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 1990
The gravitational interaction of the system of galaxies and the ICM are treated by fluctuation theory. Fluctuation theory seems to be more adequate to describe the gravitational interaction than local theories used up to now, because gravitation is a long-range force.

Virtual Cluster Partitioning Method of Active Distribution Networks Using Quantum Particle Swarm Optimization and Sector Search

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
A clustering approach based on quantum particle swarm optimization (QPSO) and the sector search model is proposed for a new distribution system; it enhances the stability of the power system and reduces the control dimension, improving overall system efficiency.

Mock Observations: Formation and Evolution of Diffuse Light in Galaxy Groups and Clusters in the IllustrisTNG Simulations

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
In this paper, by analyzing mock images from the IllustrisTNG100-1 simulation, we examine the properties of diffuse light and compare them to those of central and satellite galaxies.

A GMRT Narrowband vs. Wideband Analysis of the ACT−CL J0034.4+0225 Field Selected from the ACTPol Cluster Sample

open access: yesGalaxies, 2021
Low frequency radio observations of galaxy clusters are a useful probe of the non-thermal intracluster medium (ICM), through observations of diffuse radio emission such as radio halos and relics.

Plasma 2020 - Intracluster Medium Plasmas [PDF]

open access: yes, 1910
Galaxy clusters are the largest and most massive bound objects resulting from cosmic hierarchical structure formation. Baryons account for somewhat more than 10% of that mass, with roughly 90% of the baryonic matter distributed throughout the clusters as

Supernovae Types Ia/II and Intracluster Medium Enrichment [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
We re-examine the respective roles played by supernovae (SNe) Types Ia and II in enriching the intracluster medium (ICM) of galaxy clusters, in light of the recent downward shift of the ASCA abundance ratios of alpha-elements to iron favoured by Ishimaru

Ligand‐Dependent Intracluster Interactions in Electrochemical CO2 Reduction Using Cu14 Nanoclusters

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
This study provides insight into the precise design of Cu nanocluster catalysts for electrochemical CO2 reduction reactions through atomic‐scale ligand engineering, using two similar ligands (i.e., CHT and PET). Cu14–CHT and Cu14–PET nanoclusters exhibit significant differences in selectivity and stability, despite having nearly identical geometric and

The loss of the intracluster medium in globular clusters [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2020
ABSTRACT Stars in globular clusters (GCs) lose a non-negligible amount of mass during their post-main-sequence evolution. This material is then expected to build up a substantial intracluster medium (ICM) within the GC. However, the observed gas content in GCs is a couple of orders of magnitude below these expectations.

A Generative Model for Realistic Galaxy Cluster X-Ray Morphologies

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
The X-ray morphologies of clusters of galaxies display significant variations, reflecting their dynamical histories and the nonlinear dependence of X-ray emissivity on the density of the intracluster gas. Qualitative and quantitative assessments of X-ray
