There are two kinds of afterimages. In negative afterimages, looking at a blank field after staring at a colored figure gives a figure whose color is complementary to that of the original figure. Less well understood and studied is the phenomenon of induced positive afterimages, in which staring at a colored area surrounding a small white test patch ...

Learning Intransitivity: From Intransitive Geometrical Objects to ‘Rhizomatic’ Intransitivity
SSRN Electronic Journal, 2020A new class of intransitive objects — geometrical and mathematical constructions forming intransitive cycles A > B > C > A — are presented. In contrast to the famous intransitive dice, lotteries, etc., they show deterministic (not probabilistic) intransitive relations.

Intentionalism and Intransitivity
Synthese, 2005I argue in this paper that the existence of ‘sorites series’ of color patches – series of color patches arranged so that the patches on each end look different in color though no two adjacent patches do – shows that the relation of same phenomenal character as is not a transitive relation.

We review and investigate the current status of intransitivity as a potential obstacle in coevolution. Pareto-Coevolution avoids intransitivity by translating any standard superiority relation into a transitive Pareto-dominance relation. Even for transitive problems though, cycling is possible.

Abstract Intransitive Predication constitutes a major contribution to the study of typological linguistics and theoretical linguistics in general. Basing his analysis on a sample of 410 languages, Leon Stassen investigates cross-linguistic variation in one of the core domains of all natural languages. The author views this domain as a

Rationality and intransitive preferences

THE IRRATIONALITY OF INTRANSITIVITY
Oxford Economic Papers, 1964A RECENT discussion of welfare economics 'summarizes the question of transitivity as follows. There is not now conclusive reason to believe that the assumption of transitivity of preference in individual choice is deeply suspect. There are, however, grounds for being willing to make deep empirical investigations into the validity of the assumption ...
