Aqueous humour concentrations of HB‐EGF, EGF and VEGF‐A and axial length in humans

open access: yesActa Ophthalmologica, Volume 103, Issue 8, Page 919-928, December 2025.
Abstract Purpose To investigate relationships between the intraocular concentrations of heparin‐binding epidermal growth factor (HB‐EGF), epidermal growth factor (EGF) and vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF‐A) in dependence on axial length in humans. Design Clinical interventional cohort study.

PIK3C2A‐Related Clinical Phenotype and Cellular Charaterization Linked to Functional SHH Primary Cilia Defect

open access: yesClinical Genetics, Volume 108, Issue 6, Page 696-707, December 2025.
Trio exome sequencing allowed the identification of two novel compound heterozygous variants in PIK3C2A, defining the fifth family presenting a PIK3C2A‐related syndrome characterized by pulverulent cataracts and deafness. Functional testing revealed impaired PI metabolism and primary dysfunction phenotype.

Diabetic eye screening in people with diabetes undergoing haemodialysis: A systematic review and meta‐analysis

open access: yesDiabetic Medicine, Volume 42, Issue 12, December 2025.
Abstract Aim People with diabetes receiving haemodialysis are at increased risk of diabetic retinopathy (DR) and other ocular complications. Despite this heightened vulnerability, evidence on the prevalence of such conditions in this population is limited.

Sestrin2 Exerts a Novel Protective Effect Against LPS‐Induced Ferroptosis via the Nrf2–SLC7A11–GPX4 Signaling Axis

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, Volume 39, Issue 22, 30 November 2025.
This graphical abstract shows that LPS downregulates SESN2, leading to suppressed GPX4 activity, increased ROS, lipid peroxidation, and inflammation. SESN2 overexpression reverses these effects by activating the Nrf2/SLC7A11/GPX4 axis, reducing MDA and 4HNE levels, preserving redox balance, and alleviating ocular symptoms including hypopyon and retinal
