Bayesian Semiparametric Functional Mixed Models for Serially Correlated Functional Data, with Application to Glaucoma Data [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
Glaucoma, a leading cause of blindness, is characterized by optic nerve damage related to intraocular pressure (IOP), but its full etiology is unknown. Researchers at UAB have devised a custom device to measure scleral strain continuously around the eye under fixed levels of IOP, which here is used to assess how strain varies around the posterior pole,

The tonometric sensor, a new device for the measurement of intraocular pressure [PDF]

open access: yes, 1989
In this paper we present a new sensor for the measurement of intraocular pressure. We have applied the indentation principle, in which the eye is indented by exerting a force on it, while the size of the indented area is monitored.

Shear Wave Optical Coherence Elastography and Structural Analysis of the Postnatal Mouse Cornea through Development

open access: yesJournal of Biophotonics, EarlyView.
This paper investigates the geometrical and biomechanical properties of neonatal eyes at the early stages of development. We found that the corneal thickness is uncoupled from elastic wave speed and that the content and organization of the cornea primarily influence its mechanical properties.

Assessing UVA and Laser‐Induced Crosslinking via Brillouin Microscopy

open access: yesJournal of Biophotonics, EarlyView.
UVA crosslinking is the primary treatment to combat keratoconus. Nevertheless, unwanted side effects and limitations due to nonselective irradiation lead to the investigation of alternative irradiation treatments. This study shows similar changes in the Brillouin frequency shift of corneas crosslinked with UVA irradiation and a NIR femtosecond laser ...

Hydrus Microstent implantation with OMNI Surgical System Ab interno canaloplasty for the management of open-angle glaucoma in phakic patients refractory to medical therapy

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Ophthalmology Case Reports, 2023
Purpose: To report a series of 8 phakic eyes of 8 patients with open angle glaucoma with uncontrolled intraocular pressure on maximum tolerable medical therapy receiving Hydrus Microstent implants combined with concomitant OMNI Surgical System ab interno

Compact Monocular Video‐Ophthalmoscope to Measure Retinal Reflectance Changes to Flicker Light Stimuli

open access: yesJournal of Biophotonics, EarlyView.
This study presents a compact monocular VO that captures high‐frame‐rate retinal videos of the ONH during flicker light stimulation. The device demonstrated its ability to detect flicker‐induced changes in retinal parameters related to blood flow in healthy subjects, providing insights into temporal and spatial retinal variations.
