Urban greenspaces are a haven for wildlife in densely populated cities. Wildlife use greenspaces for resource acquisition, shelter, and travel across urbanized landscapes. Greenspace metrics such as herbaceous or woody landcover, size, patchiness, and human land use influence species richness.

We used automated behavioral response systems (ABRs) to assess invasive wild pig (Sus scrofa) behavioral response to four auditory playbacks: humans, coyote vocalizations (Canis latrans), pigs in distress, and barred owl (Strix varia) calls. Wild pigs had a significant flight response to human playbacks, but 68% of pigs did not flee.

Effects of Density and Food Availability on the Growth of Captive‐Reared Eastern Hellbenders
Our experiments demonstrate that food is the major factor limiting captive‐reared Hellbender growth and that increasing rearing density to the tested levels does not negatively impact growth. Implementing these changes may result in larger, more robust Hellbenders and increase the success of reintroduction programs.

Alternative seed trait strategies are linked to a trade‐off between spatial and temporal dispersal
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Seed dispersal allows plants to seek favourable conditions or spread the risk of unfavourable conditions through space and time. While theory predicts a trade‐off between spatial and temporal dispersal, empirical tests have been stymied by the difficulty of measuring ...

Dynamical of Prey Refuge in a Diased Predator-Prey Model with Intraspecific Competition for Predator
The predator-prey model described is a population growth model of an eco-epidemiological system with prey protection and predator intraspecific traits. Predation interactions in predator species use response functions. The aim of this research is to examine the local stable balance point and look at the characteristics of species resulting from ...

Migrating songbirds regularly use shallow torpor (up to 98% of birds for some species) to save energy (up to 42%) during inactive periods. This Ruby‐crowned Kinglet Corthylio calendula that was captured after a spring snowstorm highlights the value of being able to save energy when encountering unfavourable conditions.

Our study shows that non‐native species alter the relationship between the size‐spectrum slope and the predator–prey mass ratio (PPMR) in freshwater fish communities by occupying distinct trophic niches. Abstract The size spectrum, which describes the relationship between abundance (or biomass) and body size, is an ataxic approach that can provide ...

Hypersaline ecosystems display taxonomically similar assemblages with low diversities and highly dense accompanying viromes. The ecological implications of viral infection on natural microbial populations remain poorly understood, especially at finer ...

Predator behaviour and prey density: evaluating density-dependent intraspecific interactions on predator functional responses [PDF]
Abstract In models of size‐structured predator–prey systems, the effects are evaluated of gape‐size limited predation on prey population growth and density when predators are non‐interacting, cannibalistic, interfering, and cannibalistic and interfering.

Boldness and niche width structure spatial interactions in a natural rodent community
We show that individual behavioural differences (boldness) structure spatial encounter patterns within a natural multi‐species community. By linking personality to space use and interaction structure, our study demonstrates how intraspecific variation can scale up to shape community‐level processes.
