Early attempts of topical therapy for Meniere's Disease by instillation of an aminoglycoside (150mg-4.2g of Streptomycin) was by Schuknecht in 19571 not surprisingly this was given up mainly due to the cochleotoxic effects of the drug resulting in an average 62% hearing loss in the 8 patients treated.
