The Impact of Monoclonal Antibody Usage on Hearing Outcomes: A Systematic Review

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, Volume 135, Issue 2, Page 491-506, February 2025.
This study assesses the current landscape of the literature regarding ototoxic effects relating to the usage of monoclonal antibodies. Where available, audiometric data are discussed and a proposed mechanism of action for otologic effect is provided. Objective To ascertain trends in ototoxicity observed with monoclonal antibodies (mABs) and understand ...

Perspective: Hippocampal theta rhythm as a potential vestibuloacoustic biomarker of anxiety

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Neuroscience, Volume 61, Issue 1, January 2025.
“The intimate relationship between Balance and Anxiety” Anxiety disorders afflict 19% of Americans every year and 31% within their lifetimes. A 4–12 Hz, 1–2 mV, behaviourally modulated, nearly sinusoidal “hippocampal theta rhythm” (hTheta) signal been linked to anxiety processes.

Effect of betahistine on pro‐inflammatory cytokine expression in autoimmune inner ear disease and Meniere's disease patients

open access: yesLaryngoscope Investigative Otolaryngology, Volume 9, Issue 6, December 2024.
The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of betahistine on the salt induced cytokine expression profiles of AIED and MD patients. PBMCs were obtained from 24 patients with AIED or MD during an acute exacerbation of hearing loss and these PBMCs were cultured with 80 mM NaCl or a combination of 80 mM NaCl and betahistine.

Photodynamic therapy‐induced precise attenuation of light‐targeted semicircular canals for treating intractable vertigo

open access: yesSmart Medicine, Volume 3, Issue 4, December 2024.
Treatment of peripheral vestibular vertigo, such as intratympanic gentamicin, usually leads to serious complications such as hearing loss due to the lack of specificity on the vestibular hair cell injury. In this article, the authors developed a PDT‐based method to precisely injure the vestibular hair cells.
